Background

Wen Zhong is Golden Spirit Holy Mother’s renowned disciple and serves Great Shang as its Grand Preceptor. Unlike many cultivators who remain on Golden Turtle Island, he has spent years leading armies and fighting in life-or-death conflicts. 2 11

When Golden Spirit Holy Mother selects Lin Yuan to accompany him to Great Shang, Wen Zhong initially considers Lin Yuan’s Early Heavenly Immortal cultivation too low for the coming war. Lin’s honesty about fearing death—but refusing to abandon fellow disciples he could save—earns Wen Zhong’s approval. 10 11

As the conflict with West Qi escalates, Wen Zhong recruits the Four Sages of Nine-Dragon Island, later welcomes the Ten Heavenly Lords, and coordinates the Shang camp’s Immortal forces against the Elucidation Sect. 11 12 19 20

Personality

Wen Zhong is disciplined, practical, and deeply responsible toward both Great Shang and his fellow Intercepting Sect disciples. He does not confuse caution with cowardice: after hearing how Lin Yuan sought help against Taiyi, he explicitly affirms that there is no shame in calling for aid against an unwinnable opponent. 11

His experience makes him wary of treating the battlefield like a sect tournament. He questions Lin Yuan’s readiness, restrains reckless pursuits, and later accepts that continuously sacrificing Intercepting Sect disciples for a single war would be disastrous. 11 16 47
