The Daily Duty Department Star Officer watched the watermelon-sized exotic beast in his hand vanish. He was stunned. Only now did he realize just how bizarre this man's methods were—no person in sight, only a voice to be heard, yet he could retrieve objects from afar and cast spells invisibly. It was simply insane.
Qin Fen was stunned. Looking at the eagerly anticipated celestial beast, he felt like slapping that bastard of a Daily Duty Department Star Officer over and over.
Looking at the photo that had come through, at that watermelon-sized body and the little dog with an oversized head, Qin Fen went blind. This was clearly a Chihuahua.
There was none of the grand, imposing flair of the Chinese rural dogs named Wangcai or Tibetan Mastiffs named Black Dragon from typical novels.
If this guy became a demon and, in the midst of a fight, revealed his true form—turning from a human into a pocket-sized Chihuahua before going berserk and displaying the Demon Tribe's strongest true-form combat abilities—his opponent would definitely cough up blood and die.
"Primordial Wilderness celestial beast, Howling Celestial Hound bloodline." Qin Fen looked at the huge red words in the photo, and his asshole clenched.
A blinding image immediately formed in his mind: beneath the belly of a towering Howling Celestial Hound hung a Chihuahua. Then... then this guy appeared.
"This beast's bloodline content is extremely low, so thin it is outrageous."
That was the evaluation given by the WeChat app. Blind—Qin Fen was truly blind.
"Should I download it or not?" That was the question. Looking at its black-and-white fur and those kawaii eyes so big they practically sparkled, Qin Fen's face darkened.
That doggone Daily Duty Department Star Officer had done it on purpose.
This bloodline was absolutely god-tier, but he was afraid the cost would be too high. Yet when he saw the description, Qin Fen could no longer stay calm. He would gamble. If he died, so be it. Besides, he was playing a game—a very, very big game. He would have plenty of Merit in the future.
Qin Fen immediately reached out and tapped it. "Your current balance is 513."
Only twelve hundred? In other words...? Looking at the palm-sized thing in his hand, Qin Fen closed his eyes. This Little Bean was not even as good as a Golden-armored Warrior. That thing was a toy. Were you really a descendant of the Howling Celestial Hound?
Qin Fen had some money now and a house, so he was not in any rush to develop things immediately. Merit was the key. Spending a little to find a little companion to relieve boredom was not unacceptable.
Woof. The little fellow opened its eyes, tilted its head at Qin Fen, and stared at him with its huge eyes.
Sigh, something he could kill with one slap. Qin Fen lowered his hand, and Little Bean immediately began looking around everywhere. Then it happily ran about. Apparently knowing Qin Fen was its owner, it made a round before lifting its left leg at the conspicuous front gate and taking a piss.
Qin Fen was certain this thing had an extraordinary background. Look at that—its first order of business after touching the ground was actually claiming territory!
After running around the surrounding fence and leaving a circle of urine, Little Bean happily ran back to Qin Fen and squatted at his feet.
Man and dog stared at each other just like that.
"So you're a male!" Qin Fen scratched his forehead. Little Bean looked at him, lifted a paw, and scratched its head too.
Damn it, you're copying me! Qin Fen was furious.
"What should I feed you?" Qin Fen rubbed his chin. Should he go buy a bag of dog food?
Qin Fen thought for a moment, then looked down. The little bastard had vanished. When he turned around, the little thing had rushed into the nursery, digging up baby potatoes to eat. It swallowed them with the dirt still on them, leaving itself filthy.
Qin Fen rushed over, grabbed it by the scruff, and held its little body up before his face.
This guy had actually eaten his potatoes, and it shamelessly looked back at him, smacking its lips.
It seemed novels were all lies. These guys were not easy to raise. Ordinary food might not satisfy it, so Qin Fen still decided to buy some dog food.
He tossed the little thing into the house and locked the front gate.
Pushing his Little Lamb, Qin Fen left through the gate. As a law-abiding Four-Haves Newcomer, he chose his most badass means of transportation: an electric scooter.
The villa complex really was quiet, and his house was indeed rather far away. After walking for a while, he finally reached the main road.
Beep, beep. A Land Rover stopped beside him. "Buddy, you're hardcore. Riding a Little Lamb?"
A young man in sunglasses stuck his head out. "Never seen you before. Just moved in?"
Qin Fen nodded.
"My name's Ye Xiang. What's yours, buddy?"
Qin Fen glanced at him. Xiang, huh.
"My name is Qin Fen." He had just extended his hand out of politeness, before they could even shake, when a black shadow suddenly darted out from the side.
Qin Fen was so startled that he immediately pulled back his hand. A huge dog's head was roaring right at him. It had nearly bitten him.
It was a Doberman, vicious-looking and drooling as it barked loudly at Qin Fen.
"Haha, Black Shadow, settle down. My dog's just like this—protective of its owner. I like that about him." With that, Ye Xiang rolled up the window and drove away without looking back, a faint smile hanging at the corner of his mouth.
He did not even leave an apology. It seemed the dog was usually allowed to run wild like this. Qin Fen frowned, and an eerie curve formed at his lips. Anyone familiar with him knew that when Official Qin smiled, it actually meant he was angry. He got on his Little Lamb and followed the car out of the complex.
Men generally shopped directly and efficiently, and Qin Fen was no exception. Once he had identified his target, he struck at once without dragging things out. Hugging the dog food, he headed straight home. As for the brand, well, sorry—this Four-Haves Newcomer had no experience.
So the moment he entered the pet store, he grabbed a bag and immediately left.
The moment he got home, the sight inside stunned him.
That tiny creature with its little arms and skinny legs was running wild, scattering the ashtrays and other things from a coffee table all over the floor. Even more bizarrely, it was currently having a grudge match with a chair.
Just as Qin Fen was about to go over and lose his temper, there came a crunch. The metal leg frame of the recliner deformed.
Was it trying to rebel? That mouth was actually this fierce! Qin Fen stared blankly for a while before Little Bean staggered over to him.
Taking out the dog food and a small dish, Qin Fen decided to reason with it and appeal to its emotions.
"Bean, let's make a deal. You're an exotic beast, so how can you just make trouble everywhere? Don't tell me you can't understand—you're a descendant of the Howling Celestial Hound. Here, be good, and I'll give you something tasty." Qin Fen pushed the dish forward.
Bean leaned over and sniffed it. Then it immediately squatted down, raised half its body upright, turned its head aside, and lifted a front paw. Those ridiculous claws actually performed a difficult rubbing motion.
You're ruthless. Was it saying the reward was not enough? Was it about to become a spirit? That Daily Duty Department Star Officer had tricked me!
Qin Fen was thoroughly embarrassed. This was not scientific. Thinking of that, he decided to use force and pulled out the talisman paper he carried. The moment he took it out, Little Bean immediately cowered, lying on the ground and covering its eyes with both front paws.
It bullied the weak and feared the strong, the little bastard! Its intelligence was way too high. Qin Fen understood the principle of giving a date after the stick, so he took out the Monkey Wine from the cabinet, waved it in front of the little fellow, and pulled out the stopper. A rich fragrance immediately wafted out.
Little Bean instantly raised one paw and revealed one eye as it watched him.
"See this? Monkey Wine mixed with dog food. Behave, and you get to eat. Don't behave, and I'll beat you. Which one do you choose?" Qin Fen was speechless. He had no idea who this guy had learned that from.
Little Bean immediately propped itself up, pointed at the dog food, and looked at Qin Fen with its huge, blinking eyes.
