Background / History

Xiao Zhan is the father of Xiao Yan and the patriarch of the Xiao Family. When Xiao Yan publicly reaches the One-Star Dou Practitioner realm at age ten, Xiao Zhan declares that his son possesses the potential to become a Dou Emperor, pressuring the elders to grant Xiao Yan early access to the family’s cultivation resources. He personally gives Xiao Yan the Advanced Yellow Rank Flame-Refining Incineration and promises to seek a superior fire-attribute method 4.

After Xiao Yan claims to have found a treasure map, Xiao Zhan organizes an expedition to Qingshan Town and the Magic Beast Mountain Range. He gathers maps, supplies, horses, and five experienced Dou Practitioners, then leads the group to the concealed cliffside cave 5. During the descent, he immediately kills a concealed Rock Snake after Xiao Yan warns him of the ambush 6.

The expedition recovers vast wealth, rare herbs, an Advanced Profound Rank Flying Dou Technique, and Mad Lion Roar. Xiao Zhan keeps the scale of the discovery secret until the party returns safely to Wutan City, where he estimates the haul at no less than ten million gold coins 7.

He later secures the Advanced Profound Rank, fire-attribute Sacred Sun Technique for 410,000 gold coins. Although Xiao Yan covertly bids against him during the auction, Xiao Zhan recognizes his son’s scheme and works with it to trap their rivals into hesitation 9. During the conflict with the Jialie Family, Xiao Zhan supports Xiao Yan’s commercial strategies and combat plans. When Jia Lie Bi attacks Xiao Yan with a Profound Rank technique, Xiao Zhan enters the battle and drives the Jialie patriarch back with Lion Mountain Rend and Mad Lion Roar 27.

After the Jialie Family collapses, the Xiao Family absorbs its businesses and becomes Wutan City’s foremost lineage 29. Xiao Zhan later accompanies Xiao Yan to Qingshan Town to take charge of Thousand Medicine Hall and protect the herb-gathering expedition 30 31. When Xiao Yan, Xiao Ding, and Xiao Li leave to pursue their own paths, he remains in Wutan City, proud of his sons despite the loneliness of their departures 40.

He is also cautious and capable in leadership. During the treasure expedition, he relies on scouting, maps, armed escorts, and measured investigation rather than recklessness 5. Even when Xiao Yan proposes dangerous plans, Xiao Zhan initially objects and only agrees after judging that his son has prepared adequate protection 25.
