In a secluded cave in the Rain Country, the Akatsuki once again convened a full meeting. However, unlike the relaxed atmosphere of the past, this gathering was somewhat solemn.
One of the seats that had originally been filled was now empty.
Nagato, seated at the head, spoke coldly. "We just received intelligence. Deidara is dead."
As soon as he spoke, everyone's expressions shifted slightly. This was the first loss of an official Akatsuki member. Although Deidara did not rank highly within the organization, his strength was not weak, and he could fly.
Perhaps many people could defeat him, but very few could truly keep him from escaping.
"Who killed that bastard?"
A somewhat hoarse voice rang out.
It came from a short, bloated man concealed beneath a cloak, his face impossible to make out clearly. A ring engraved with the character "Void" rested on his finger.
He was Sasori of the Red Sand, hailed as the Shinobi World's greatest Puppet Technique prodigy and one half of the Akatsuki's Art Duo.
Hearing the question, Pain said, "The Dao Sect."
"The Dao Sect again?"
Kisame's expression changed as he recalled the time Old Celestial Master had beaten him senseless.
"This organization calling itself the Dao Sect has disrupted our operations many times. Should we take some measures against them?"
Itachi Uchiha asked.
After thinking for a moment, Pain responded, "Wait for now. Our most important task is collecting the tailed beasts. Once we gather them all and activate that plan, destroying the Dao Sect will be as easy as turning over a hand."
"What are the next arrangements?"
Sasori of the Red Sand asked.
Pain looked at him and said, "Go lie low around the Hidden Sand Village first. Once the Dao Sect's people leave, move immediately and bring back the Jinchuriki."
