Edna couldn't help laughing. Sanda King and the others had long since told her all about Perfect Baldhead's glorious history... to teach her that she had to recognize clearly that she was only mortal. Just because someone else could do something didn't mean she could too.

To live a dazzling life, the effort behind it had to run as deep as the sea... without that kind of ruthlessness, she shouldn't imagine herself a natural genius, someone for whom everything went smoothly and whose every wish was delivered to her door.

For mortals like them, before doing anything... whether great or small, they should first take a sheet of paper and list their abilities one by one.

Then they should compare that list against the conditions required to accomplish the task before deciding whether they could act at all, or whether they could achieve the best possible result.

Most importantly, after listing their abilities, they had to remember to discount them by thirty percent... if they felt particularly powerful, they absolutely had to discount them by half.

As long as they maintained that approach throughout, they might not reap any great benefits, but at least they wouldn't suffer any great losses.

Edna could actually sense that Old School Striking King and the others were trying to teach her according to the standards of a leader... and preparing her to serve as a capable city lord on her own, even if the Undead stopped appearing someday.

She could understand that. Just because Ao welcomed the Undead now didn't mean he would welcome them forever.

After all, the first foreign race Ao had welcomed into Toril had been the dragons.

Then, feeling that the dragons were doing too much damage to Toril, he had gone to great lengths to bring in the elves.
