And Devils were willing to fight Demons not merely because Demon blood could earn them the qualifications for promotion. It was also because Hell's Soul Pool branded them with a hatred of Abyssal Demons when every Devil was born, during their youngest and most irrational, powerless stage.

The higher a Devil's rank, the better they became at breaking free from—or suppressing—that mark. When facing Demons, they would first consider their own interests... but that did not mean they would not feel irritated at the sight of Demons.

Once they entered Blood War mode, amid the bloody stench and aura of death from endless fallen kin, no Devil below the rank of Duke could continue suppressing that mark... that was why even Devils, who fled quickly and excelled at weighing gains against losses, would fight Demons to the death.
