After watching the entire scene, Rommel understood the two most important messages Hill had given him: Gilbert and Aislin.

Of course he knew what made Aislin special, but only today did he understand what Hill had kept beneath the surface, refusing to say aloud: if this woman kept living so thoughtlessly, the best possible outcome at their next meeting would be for him to meet this world's Silver Moon Goddess.

The worst outcome, of course, was that the two wills would destroy each other and Aislin herself would be reduced to ashes... But now that this world had reestablished contact with the River Styx, and a Styx Messenger named Gilbert was stationed nearby, she might still be able to preserve her shattered soul.

Although a Styx Messenger could not do as much as the Styx Will, he could still manage something as minor as pouring all his magical power into saving one person's soul.

And judging by the way Hill interacted with Aislin, the relationship between those two fellow apprentices was rather complicated.

Having taught many students, Draculus naturally understood that sort of complication: although we do not get along, although we compete, I will not stand by and watch you die.

Especially not a death that annihilated the soul as well.

Gilbert would probably lend her a hand.

Of course, there was another possibility: Aislin might be blessed by fortune and actually pull herself together when she needed to... Then, when those two had gravely wounded each other, she might rescue her own soul.

Although the odds were only one in ten thousand, as long as the possibility existed, someone could accomplish it... Draculus could not help glancing at the metal painting... Its owner, for example.

Of course, Draculus was not about to assume that Aislin could do it
