More than half of the ordinary Priests survived, but the sufficiently devout ones had perished as well.

Nothing like this had happened with the Gods the Undead had slain before.

Hill suspected it was because the Undead had truly killed that God, rather than as in the past, when a God's death was merely another kind of slumber, followed by awakening several centuries later at the summons of their followers.

The Gods the Undead had killed before had not met such a terrible end as the God of Travel, probably because their followers had not been so devout.

Gods of the Evil Alignment only demanded that their followers be respectful, fearful, and awestruck. They themselves understood that, aside from a few who had been brainwashed into stupidity, no normal person could devote their entire body and soul to an Evil God.

Evil Gods lured followers through brainwashing, coercion, temptation, or sins that left no way back after joining them.

It was perfectly normal for the Spring Goddess to have so few followers.

In the Undead's words, even most of the loyal followers sheltered within that great temple of hers had surrendered—faster than even Evil God's followers could kneel.
