Telly did not understand why Hill looked so helpless. He knew how many things Hill had that could earn him gold. Did Hill prefer hoarding goods to collecting coins?
They were not even treasures. Even a dragon would not be that stingy.
How much nicer it would be to turn them into lovely, jingling little gold pieces!
The Gold Dragon curled his lip, took off his Soft Gloves, and settled comfortably onto his enormous rug. "Hill, the Harpers Alliance wants to come here too."
"They said it's because Mielikki's priestess is an elf with a Unicorn, and she wants to establish a new parish. But I feel like there's something else going on."
"What he told me was true, but it wasn't the whole truth."
"If he won't tell you directly, it must have something to do with dragons!" Aglaia said. "Just because he can't say it outright doesn't mean you can't find out. Your family probably knows."
Hill froze for a few seconds, then suddenly understood.
It was about next year's Year of Thunder, when countless dragon eggs would fall to the earth amid endless thunder. Whoever found an egg would claim it, and the dragon it became would depend entirely on who raised it.
As the most direct incarnations of dragonkind's origins, the Platinum Dragon King and the Chromatic Dragon Queen must both have received a prophecy.
Bahamut had probably already asked all his allies for help. Rather than let every egg become a Chromatic Dragon, he would prefer them to become Metallic Dragons and sign short-term alliance pacts with humans.
In other words, Dragon Knights.
The Forest Pantheon had always been on good terms with the Platinum Dragon King. Add the Goddess of Magic, and of course they would take an opportunity that benefited everyone.
