Hill suspected that the Earth Elemental Lord was an avatar of Grumbar, the god of earth elementals. Level 25 was not a threshold just any Elemental Lord could cross, and Hill had sensed the purest divine power of the Earth-Element Law.

The Earth Elemental Lord and his companions piled earth onto him until he became a stone giant two stories tall, then ran all over the Sword Mountains.

Hill could only be glad he had decided not to let these Elemental Sprites leave the Mythal's bounds.

Watching the huge stone figure itch to climb the highest peak, Hill gently prodded him through his Mental Sea.

With Hill standing on the terrace and silently watching him, the being who might be Grumbar quieted down. He looked as steady as a mountain.

Hill silently recited in his Mental Sea: Eternal Grumbar is perfect and unchanging.

The huge stone figure turned away and went to admire the view from the other side of the Sword Mountains.

He left Hill with just one remark. "Those are things my so-called worshippers say. I have no need to live up to their imaginings."

"The earth has never stayed the same."

Hill gave him a helpless welcome. "Please enjoy yourself here, but if you want to have fun, try not to use power above level 22."

Grumbar cheerfully agreed.

He did not like dealing with his human worshippers and never accepted their faith, though their sincerity sometimes moved him.

But for some reason, humans insisted on assigning elementals so many personality traits. Even when Grumbar occasionally answered their calls, he found it boring and had no desire to talk to them.

The earth was heavy and solid, certainly, but it was never without change. Nor did that mean it disliked fun.

A random summoning powerful enough to
