Hill stood on the terrace, silently watching the attic.
A peacock's head flashed past the window. When he saw Hill's expressionless face, he ducked back inside.
Had he come to check whether Hill had figured out what mischief he was planning?
The legends of Lathander, the Lord of Dawn, crumbled piece by piece in Hill's mind. Apparently, even a god of the Good Alignment who could nearly destroy the world was nowhere close to reliable.
Hill pressed a hand to his forehead and reminded himself sternly: Lathander might have some connection to the sun, but he was not a true Sun God.
He was only the Lord of Dawn. Hill must not compare him to Telashir's Sun God. They were nothing alike.
Lathander was the god of youth, the very image of a reckless adolescent. Nothing he did should come as a surprise.
Liszt appeared, looking thoroughly puzzled. "He just called for the Tower Spirit and asked me to make him a comfortable nest in the attic.
"He also muttered to himself that gods were forbidden from interfering in any recent affairs. No matter who they were, they could only watch. They could appear only if someone summoned them."
So as long as the Lord of Dawn did not speak to Hill first, he considered himself within the rules?
Hill swallowed hard, forcing down every complaint. He waved to Liszt, indicating that the Lord of Dawn could do whatever he wanted.
"Oh, and remember to send him clean water and some smaller fruit," Hill told Liszt.
Lathander was perfectly capable of sneaking into the kitchen for food. Better not give him the chance to improvise.
He had probably rushed down so quickly because he feared Ao would stop him and leave him no chance to get involved in this affair.
