Laira glanced at the dozens of Aglaia City Guard standing by the door of the city hall and smiled at them. "Welcome to Luskan, everyone. I hope we'll enjoy our time together. While you're here, my colleagues and I will do everything we can to make you feel welcome."
Her flattery toward the Elves came a little late.
Perhaps the Elven City Guard had behaved so properly, staying calm even when they heard things they disliked, that Laira and Luskan's officials had forgotten what these guards had once been: crusaders.
If there was one thing they never shied away from, it was arguing about whether Elves were strong.
Hill lowered his eyes rather than look at the strange expressions the Elves had forced onto their faces—three parts mockery, seven parts disdain. He silently turned his chair away. Those faces looked so theatrical... no, so villainous. They really had spent a lot of time with the Undead!
