Lynn smiled as he watched the Habel family patriarch wrestle with his decision. Adanko's immaculate robe had been creased by his restless fingers.
They both knew Aglaia City could turn away those dubious merchant caravans. Its alignment requirement alone was enough to keep most caravans traveling the continent at bay.
Caravans run by Good Alignment organizations certainly existed, but two or three visits a year would be a good showing.
But if Long Saddle Town's offer wasn't generous enough, Lynn could simply send the caravans around the city's edge to the coastal road... True, Aglaia City still wouldn't earn anything from those passing merchants, and Hill wouldn't expand his roadside inn and warehouse for their sake. In the end, only Waterdeep's port interests might benefit.
But that depended on Long Saddle Town's attitude... Sometimes hurting someone else, even at no gain to yourself, could be satisfying.
Adanko hesitated for more than ten minutes before finally making up his mind. "Aside from spells and alchemical methods tied to the Habel Family's inheritance, we can share all our other records with Aglaia... I think transporting them alone would keep this road busy for a century."
Lynn gave him an unimpressed smile. "Once Aglaia sets a rule, it generally stays in place. We don't even bother listening to promises about a century or anything of the sort... They sound nice, but they're really just made to be broken whenever one side gains the upper hand.
"Does the Habel Family think that once Mystra returns, Khelben will be able to keep our lord in check?
"Never mind. I don't need to concern myself with what you think...
"We both know how things work. I was once a Harper myself... Just because I don't say something doesn't mean I don't know it.
"Besides, what gave
