Hill stood before the window, looking south toward Aglaia. "I wonder how Waterdeep is doing now."
What he was most curious about was what exactly had fallen into Waterdeep's hands to provoke such a frenzied large-scale Drow invasion. They had even taken precautions against Hill interfering, despite knowing full well about his distant yet somewhat hostile relationship with Khelben.
Although Selûne could be muddleheaded at times, she at least would not fail to recognize something capable of killing Shar... it was something she could discover by instinct alone, without needing any judgment.
"The dragon roars last night did not come solely from our Aglaia dragons," Lynn answered quickly. "Waterdeep's dragons normally would never come out to help humans defend against outside enemies... they usually just hid in their private chambers."
"Aren't dragon chambers all underground?" Hill laughed. The Drow had come through underground passages.
"Though it cannot be seen from above Waterdeep, the Underdark inhabitants generally know which places lead to the dragons' underground lairs," Lynn explained. "So... one of the Drow's targets must have been a dragon. Unfortunately, it is too far away. Even Telly and Tasting cannot tell whose home was attacked.
"I just wonder whether the Drow obtained what they wanted before suddenly retreating in force.
"I have already paid the Harpers a sum of money. Since it has nothing to do with Khelben's side, I estimate they will still sell us accurate information.
"After all, Milil has not yet withdrawn from the Harpers, and Storm Silverhand, the current leader of the Harpers, has always been trying to keep the bards around."
Hill nodded, then shook his head regretfully. "The Master in Black Robes really did not show up..."
