"Why didn't she plant trees on the other side too?" Selûne asked, puzzled. She had thought Vera would stay in the Alamir Mountains for a long time.

"Even nature wouldn't demand trees on the other side of a rocky mountain," Hill said, at a loss for words.

The Undead lived far removed from nature, so it was only natural that they didn't understand. But how could Selûne, a goddess who had watched the earth for hundreds of thousands of years, ask that? Vera had agreed to let the Undead build the Great Wall along the crest of the Alamir Mountains precisely because nothing farther down the other side could be planted.

She had come to restore the natural cycle, not overturn Calimshan's existing soil and climate.

Hill had noticed from the start that Vera had scattered plenty of pasture grass seed near the Great Wall. She had planted quite a bit on the wall itself, too.

Once those grasses produced seed again, wind, water, rain, dew, and small animals would carry it wherever nature took it.

Vera herself would only replant fertile land that could recover, filling it with all kinds of vegetation—the places that should have been full of flowers and green willows in the first place.

Xue Yunfeng wasn't particularly troubled. Given his habit of preparing several contingency plans, Vera's choice might have surprised him, but all he had to do was revise the event notice he was about to issue.

Young Master had already come out of the oak grove. Hill thought he was simply too headstrong to want responsibility, not incapable of reading the room. Otherwise, why hadn't he said a word during the final free-for-all?
