Chapter 17: Soloing the Orc Tribe
Draw the bow and fire!
Draw the bow and fire!
Arrows wrapped in battle aura struck the patrolling Orcs with flawless precision.
Lotner watched scene after scene unfold. Every Orc that fell had been struck in its ugly head by an arrow, but not pierced through. Only a tiny amount of green blood seeped from where the arrows had passed. The bloody scent was faint and could not travel far through this primeval forest.
This was enough to show that William was indeed an extremely seasoned archer.
William watched his experience rise steadily, a smile spreading across his face. He could already upgrade his battle aura manual, but before level 5, upgrading it was useless; neither its special effects nor skills would change.
Killing monsters above one's level gave plenty of experience, even for a Legendary Boss like William.
If he could kill a monster twenty levels above himself, his experience could increase tenfold at most!
But that required a certain amount of damage dealt to the monster.
Only by dealing 100% of the damage could a player receive ten times the experience. As the damage percentage fell, so did the experience gained. This prevented players from exploiting the system by only taking the last sliver of a monster's health.
Of course, certain consumables could also one-shot monsters twenty levels higher.
But how many players could afford that method?
Wasn't that just bleeding their fathers dry?!
Therefore...
Power-leveling was unavoidable!
Back then, William had taken rich players through level-grinding runs, spending the money he earned to top up his own account, step by step reaching the Legendary Realm...
And as a Legendary-level power-leveler, his reputation had soared. He became one of the most badass power-levelers on the Legendary Continent. After his prices multiplied several times over, nothing could stop his power-leveling journey.
After all...
Players who reached the Legendary Realm in this game were prized by guilds. None of them would go power-leveling others...
After wiping out the patrolling Orcs on the outskirts in one go, the Orcs in the settlement noticed nothing. Dinner had begun, and they were all roaring and shouting as they excitedly tore into roasted meat.
They feasted with great relish, their mouths glistening with grease.
Standing atop a tree, William looked toward the Orc leader. That guy had the least dignity of them all. While eating roasted meat, he scratched his crotch, then even brought his hand to his nose and sniffed it. Apparently finding the scent rich and satisfying, he grinned before grabbing more roasted meat to eat...
"What a bunch of idiots!" William raised an eyebrow. They were eating now, so there was no way to launch a sneak attack.
And after the Orcs finished dinner, they would rotate in new patrols. By then, they would definitely discover the intruder.
"Then... I can only use Pirated Explosive Arrows!" Xu Hao glanced over the Orc settlement. There were eight large bonfires here.
As long as battle aura arrows were shot into them, the sudden contact between battle aura and fire would cause friction. After the friction, the battle aura and flames would undergo some %&#¥*% chemical reaction.
Ahem, anyway, it would cause an explosion.
Don't ask why. That was simply how the game was designed—one of the rules of the Gods Continent.
"Hmm, no oil bladders. Otherwise, I'd make the flames on your bodies burn even fiercer!" William sighed. Things could be attached to arrows.
For example, poison bladders, oil bladders, or even all sorts of elemental crystals. As long as one learned Explosive Arrow and attached such items, a single shot could produce excellent area damage. Alternatively, one could obtain similar attribute-based battle aura at the intermediate stage.
Against Orcs, Flame Explosive Arrows were their natural bane.
Though they were thick-skinned and burly, each one built like a bear, other than their heads, they were basically covered in prickly black hair. Once they removed their armor, every last one of them was a muscular beast with a chest full of hair.
William Blackleaf took a deep breath, drew his bow to its limit, and fired a battle aura arrow!
Whoosh!
Boom!
One large bonfire exploded violently. The instant the flames burst outward, more than a dozen nearby Orcs became flaming Orcs, their wildly flailing figures a spectacular sight!
As for the other burning coals, they struck dozens of Orcs with the force of the explosion. The hairiest Orcs immediately began to howl in agony!
Every one of them wished they could tear all the hair from their bodies.
After all, Orcs with luxuriant hair tended to have stronger physiques, and they sat at the very front whenever food was served. But more hair also meant a greater fear of fire!!!
William did not stop. The speed at which he drew and fired had reached its limit. Arrows shot madly toward the bonfires. In just three seconds, all eight enormous bonfires exploded one after another. The thunderous blasts did not carry far through the forest, but they stirred the roars of many wild beasts and sent all kinds of birds scattering into the sky.
"Ugly Elf, I see you! I'm going to eat the meat off your thighs! Aaahhh!!" The Orc leader was a Berserker, and though he was not particularly tall, the little freak looked quite nimble.
So he had dodged away immediately and was uninjured.
But his subordinates had suffered grievous casualties. Overcome with rage, the Orc leader charged forward in huge strides, wielding two axes.
William twitched his mouth. What kind of weird fetish was that? One look told him this lowlife had never eaten a real Elf and was just making things up. Elven thigh meat clearly didn't have...
Ahem.
William had not eaten any either. He had merely heard about it...
Five hundred Orcs, after being baptized by Explosive Arrows, were instantly reduced to just over three hundred. These Orcs had only recently opened up a new settlement. They could not make fires inside the cave, so they could only do so outside. But they had not cut down many trees either, so everyone had gathered together. As a result, William had nearly wiped them out in one pot!
Even the remaining three hundred or so Orcs were covered in sparks, looking like fire-scorched black chimpanzees...
The Orc leader was a level 35 Boss. His bloodline rank was unknown, but as long as William was not an idiot, he would not climb down from the tree to fight him head-on!
When a group of Orcs surrounded him, he stood in the tree and fired wildly. His archery was so accurate it made one's scalp tingle. Even fast-running Orcs were repeatedly shot in the head and knocked to the ground.
So far, William Blackleaf had not missed a single arrow.
"Damn it! Damn Elven Ranger, get down here!" The Orc leader leaped up with a bang, both axes blooming with battle aura.
Crack!
A tree as thick as a waist was cleaved apart by one axe, but William had already lightly leaped onto another tree and continued firing!
He did not deny being an Elven Ranger either...
After all, it could not be helped. The Dawn Guardian class was half Ranger and half Warrior. But you might not believe it when he said that he shot more accurately than a Ranger and hit harder than a Warrior...
And it was not as though this Orc settlement lacked archers. But Orc archers were rare, and rarity meant they were Elite. Being Elite meant they stayed close to the bonfires...
After the explosions, only three to five Orc archers remained. Every one of them was badly wounded and had no strength left to draw a bow.
Even if some frantically hurled their weapons, they could not throw straight.
So William leaped through the treetops, kiting them with the agility of an Elf...
Yet these Orcs simply could not catch him.
The Orc leader could only watch the tragedy continue to unfold with bloodshot eyes.
William fired wildly. Whenever his quiver ran out of arrows, another quiver was tossed to him, so he never lacked ammunition.
But kiting could not go on forever. When all the surrounding trees had been chopped down, William, surrounded by Orcs, could only stop this "cruel" slaughter!
