Discovering an Iron Ore Vein?
When the Elven Magic Swordsmen charged first, surging into the Orc tribe like a torrent of steel, this small-scale war was essentially over.
Hatred between races.
Enemies between factions.
Most would not spare a single enemy. Regardless of age or sex, any Orc with fur on its body or any Orc cub with fangs in its mouth would die without a burial place.
Unless... these Orcs could be put to use and turned into slaves.
Of course.
There had once been an impressive Orc hero who shouted the slogan, "Orcs shall never be slaves," nearly sparking another great war between humans and Orcs.
But it was actually useless. These Orcs were not that strong-willed. With their intelligence and sorry state, starving them for a few days and giving them a few lashings was enough to make them obediently become slaves.
They shouted that Orcs would never be slaves, but once food and lodging were provided, that was another matter entirely.
Though there would always be a few who would rather die than submit.
But after killing them cleanly and hanging their heads in the other Orcs' homes, the whole world became quiet.
Even after becoming slaves, they would still resist from time to time.
But the vast majority of Orc slaves were basically miners...
Otherwise, they were sent to the Gladiator Arena to give nobles the thrill of watching bloody carnage.
It was difficult for a large-scale Orc rebellion to arise and bring down a human nation.
Because such things had happened before, and humans had learned their lesson.
Oh, it was that guy who had shouted, "Orcs shall never be slaves"...
But William had yet to find a mine, and he could not be bothered to keep Orcs around for mining. He might as well satisfy his soldiers' wishes by slaughtering every last Orc in the tribe and gaining a bit of goodwill.
William Blackleaf leaped down from the tree trunk. When Lotner saw him, he stopped sweeping through the battlefield for corpses that might be playing dead. He walked over with a smile. "The results were good. No one died. Only a few Rangers were grazed by arrows and suffered minor flesh wounds."
"Very good. Did we get anything?"
Lotner pointed at the Orc corpses. "Well, look at them. These Orcs actually had crude iron armor, which surprised me.
"Especially that Orc leader. I stripped forty pounds of iron armor off him without even feeling tired. They must have discovered some Iron Ore. You should know that the fine equipment our Warriors possess was all brought out from Blackleaf Elven Royal City.
"The Iron Ore near the town was already mined out and sold to the Human Duchy. And when those other deserters left, they also looted the warehouses."
"That really is good news. Is there anything else?" William looked around, and Nock came running out of a tall tent with a broad grin.
Holding up a dark, gleaming object, he shouted, "My lord, it's Iron Essence! Iron Essence used to forge fine blue-grade armor! There must be Iron Ore nearby. And there was a treasure chest too—one hundred and thirty gold coins, over five hundred silver coins, and more than three thousand copper coins inside!"
"Excellent." William nodded with a smile. With an Iron Ore Vein and ready coin on hand, the financial crisis was temporarily over.
[Quest: Crisis Near the Territory. Clear the Orc tribe. First stage completed!] [Reward: 5,000 experience points] [Reward: Medium Iron Vein near the Orcs.]
In an instant.
William rose to level 9. He received four free attribute points and one skill point. Naturally, he saved them for now. Level 10 was no longer far away, especially since he had personally killed many Orcs just now.
This game had no archery proficiency. Hitting a target basically depended entirely on aiming, like an FPS game. It relied on practice and talent.
As a top solo player in his previous life, William could not possibly have known only the skills of his own class.
Though he was a Warrior, that did not mean he could not use other weapons.
As long as one had enough attributes, even a Warlock could hold a sword in one hand and a staff in the other, charging forward alongside Knights.
After all...
Gandalf's greatness had continued to influence Warlock players in the game, no matter how many centuries passed.
What Warlock did not carry a fine greatsword? Otherwise, they would be disgracing Warlocks everywhere.
As for how many Warlock players actually invested points in Strength...
Well...
Different people had different opinions.
Warlocks who could wield a same-tier Dark Gold longsword had generally invested quite a lot...
And how strong were Warlocks built with Strength?
You know what?
They were actually damn powerful.
Anyone daring enough to play that way was either insanely lucky or filthy rich. When you met players like that, making friends with them was a must. Following them later would mean living well without a care.
But for someone like William, a Warrior with a hidden class in his previous life, being this proficient with a bow meant he had possessed that talent from the start.
Of course, practicing archery was unavoidable. One had to shoot quickly, shoot often, and shoot accurately.
Practice more and you would understand.
But different classes found it difficult to learn a class's shooting skills. Even if they learned them, it was a huge waste of experience points. Back then, he had only learned a few High-Class archer skills. Unwilling to waste more, he chose to train his shooting technique relentlessly. Fortunately, he had been born with remarkably nimble fingers... extremely nimble.
What was more.
If a legendary player did not know a trick or two from other classes, could he still be called legendary?
Multiple classes, multiple elements, development in multiple directions.
That was the charm of this game.
As long as one had enough attributes, a Mage could wear heavy armor and charge like a Knight, while a Warrior could wield a staff and hurl fireballs!
By the middle and late stages of the game, the war scenes among players were spectacular.
When cavalry formations charged on a massive scale.
The opening move was often not a blanket of sword aura.
It was all kinds of Magic Cannon attacks, followed by half-baked spells flying everywhere, arrows raining down, muskets booming. Only after the ranged attacks ran dry did the cavalry begin their life-and-death melee.
Once the Elven Warriors had stripped all the equipment from the Orcs, dug a pit, and buried the corpses to prevent rot from causing plague, the aftermath of the battle could finally be considered finished.
William nodded happily. "Everyone, put down that equipment for now. This battle was not particularly difficult, but every one of you performed exceptionally well. Everyone will receive one silver coin, and the injured will receive one extra silver coin!"
"Thank you, my lord!" The Elven Warriors beamed with joy. They had not expected this stingy lord to be so generous, giving each of them a silver coin. They immediately placed their right hands over their chests and bowed slightly in salute.
What genuine Elves. Give them a reward, and they bow... William mused before continuing, "All right. The rewards will be handed out after we return to town. For now, form teams of five and spread out to search for our Iron Ore Vein!"
"Yes, my lord!" The Elven soldiers scattered in an orderly fashion. They needed no command, naturally forming teams of five before disappearing into the forest.
Iron Ore was extremely valuable.
Though this world had rare mineral veins such as Mithril, Gold Essence, Purple Gold, Orichalcum, as well as all kinds of dazzling gemstone deposits, Iron Ore, Copper Ore, and Aluminum Ore remained the primary mineral resources of Gods Continent.
With this Iron Ore, the problem of repairing the Elven Warriors' equipment could be resolved with ease.
If they could find plenty of Iron Essence, they could even upgrade fine equipment into blue-grade equipment.
The standard equipment grades.
Common (White)
Fine (Black)
Excellent (Blue)
Superior (Silver)
After that came the impressive equipment with various attributes, skills, special effects, and more: Gold, Dark Gold, Epic, Legendary, and even equipment bearing "Divinity."
Of course, there were also certain unusual growth-type equipment pieces.
