History

Elves and Dwarves fought together to overthrow Dragon rule in the First Era. Elves then ruled during the Second Era, when they lived under the protection of the World Tree 22 392. During the Dark Invasion, Elven forces fought for centuries, but the World Tree was destroyed and the Pure-Blood Elven population fell sharply. Humans and Winged Folk rose to prominence in the Third Era 240 392 556.

On the Legendary Continent, the surviving Pure-Blood Elves formed three kingdoms. The Black Leaf Elves inhabited southern Blackleaf Forest, the Moonlight Elves lived in Moon Forest on Central Island, and the Snow Elves occupied northern Icefield Forest. Each kingdom had more than ten million Elves, but their combined population was small beside that of humanity 30.

The three kingdoms renewed their alliance through the Elven Covenant, opening portals and preparing a ten-year war against the Far North’s Orc Empire. The covenant united them for mutual defense and a bid to regain influence, but did not merge their kingdoms 368 369.

William’s World Tree later began producing adult Elves in its small world. Its population reached 1.4 million—including 340,000 soul-reborn Elves—and recognized William as king of a new branch, the Dawn Elves 568 653. When other Elven forces moved to seize the World Tree, William’s Dawn forces fought them. After William demonstrated overwhelming strength, the other Elven kings became willing to acknowledge him as king in exchange for access to the Tree’s benefits; he subsequently designated all Elves as Dawn Elves 699 702 704.

Appearance

Pure-Blood Elven branches have consistent hair and eye colors within their respective peoples, unlike Half-Elves, whose coloring can vary 3.

  • Black Leaf Elves — black hair, black eyes, and pointed ears 338.
  • Moonlight Elves — silver hair is noted among those living in Dawn City 124.
  • Snow Elves — generally long white hair and blue eyes; taller and sturdier than other Pure-Blood Elves 368.

Society and Culture

  • Long lives, few births: Elves can live for thousands of years, but Pure-Blood Elves reproduce poorly. Each wartime death is therefore a substantial loss 2 80.
  • Childhood and education: Children generally play until thirteen, then choose an interest with their parents’ support. Every Elf has the potential to become a Professional, making formal combat or magic academies unnecessary for basic training 80.
  • Settlements: Many prefer treehouses and unwalled towns. Wood-element Mages can grow magical seeds into inhabited trees; Blue Moon Town connects its treehouses with trunks and enchanted vines 37.
  • Daily life: Elves hunt and eat meat alongside fruit and vegetables. Their long lives also leave them attached to possessions and heirlooms collected over centuries 4 83.
  • Outlook: They are portrayed as proud and courteous in peace, but capable of calculated brutality in war 9 22 24.

Abilities & Skills

Innate Attributes and Training

  • Elves have strong natural attributes, longevity, agility, and combat potential in both martial and magical professions 2.
  • Experience and physical ability can continue improving with age even when an Elf cannot advance to a higher rank 37 370.
  • For players, choosing an Elf carries an experience requirement twice that of a human character 2.

Woodland Warfare

  • Elven forces use forest terrain for silent movement, scouting, ambushes, archery, and traps 7 16.
  • Their disciplined formations combine ranged fire with Warriors and Magic Swordsmen; a 300-guard force defeated an Orc tribe without losing an Elf 6 7 8.
  • This advantage is terrain-dependent: William leaves his Knights behind on a forest expedition because ordinary cavalry cannot fight there effectively 6.

World Tree Auras

  • The World Tree’s Life Aura can extend lifespan through prolonged exposure and increases HP recovery by 2% per second 699.
  • Its Mana Aura improves maximum mana and cultivation speed, increases magic and battle-aura recovery by 2% per second, and reduces skill cooldowns by 20% 699.
  • William’s World Tree can birth adult Elves and sustain them in a mana-rich small world. Its first 70,000 newborn Elves have bloodlines ranging from Grandmaster to Legendary quality 568 583.

Relationships

  • Dwarves — ancient allies in the overthrow of Dragon rule, though their later relationship is not uniformly friendly 22 317.
  • Orcs and Demons — longstanding enemies; the Elven Covenant targets the Orc Empire and the Dark World’s servants 24 368 369.
  • Humans — former wartime partners and later political rivals. Intermarriage near the end of the Second Era produced Half-Elves to bolster the fight against dark creatures 240.
  • Half-Elves — descendants of Elves and humans who can face Pure-Blood prejudice; Black Leaf royals challenge William’s place among them because of his human ancestry 3 240 338.
  • William Blackleaf — a Half-Elf prince who commands Elven soldiers, founds the Dawn Elves, and later becomes king of the Elves 1 653 704.
  • World Tree — the Elves’ ancestral protector and, as William’s Tree confirms, a source capable of birthing Elves 392 568.
