Bond

After getting his new name, little Si Chi suddenly asked Chi Li to take him back into the water house.

Chi Li was puzzled, but he still reached out, lifted the little fishling, and brought him close to the nursery tank.

The little fishling leaped into the water, his tail fin unfurling like a streak of silvery-white silk.

He swam around once and found the eggshell placed in the soft shell bed. Grabbing its edge, the fishling held it in his arms and floated toward the surface.

Si Chi held the eggshell over his head and offered it toward Chi Li.

Chi Li looked at it. "For me?"

Si Chi nodded and added, "Eat."

Seeing that Chi Li still looked somewhat confused, the fishling demonstrated by taking a small bite of the eggshell. "Father, eat."

Si Jinyan nudged Chi Li with his arm. "Our son wants you to eat the eggshell. Have some. Don't make him sad."

Chi Li did not quite understand, but under the fishling's expectant gaze, he still accepted the shard of eggshell.

An eggshell large enough for Si Chi to hold in his arms, nearly half the size of his body, was no bigger than half a fingernail in Chi Li's hand.

With a crisp crunch, Chi Li bit down. It was not as hard as he had imagined; it even carried a hint of sweetness.

Watching the little figure in the water suddenly spin in circles out of obvious delight, Chi Li finally could not help asking Si Jinyan in a low voice, "What exactly does this mean?"

Si Jinyan seemed to have known the reason all along. "The eggshell is the most nutritious thing for him at this stage. He probably thinks you need nourishment. He knows you were seriously injured before."
