Background

Chi Li is one of the few members of Loran’s royal family with cream-scented pheromones. His parents were respected researchers: his omega father directed the Luolan First Research Institute, while his other father was also an exceptional researcher. His grandfather was a celebrated general with longstanding ties to Loran’s imperial household. Their deaths were publicly described as sacrifices to scientific research, but Chi Li’s restored memories reveal that they died amid a fire connected to the turmoil surrounding the Luolan Direct Research Institute. 1 44 74 75

Much of Chi Li’s early memory was missing until Bai Qi helped him restore it. He was raised within a mercenary corps by his uncle, Sheng Rui, who later died protecting him during a mission. Chi Li received military training from childhood and developed a foundation in combat, reconnaissance, and rapid response. His lost memories reveal that, before entering the mercenary corps, he had lived with his fathers and befriended a young Si Jinyan, then known as Jin, at the research institute. 1 44 46 75 78

Loran selected Chi Li to infiltrate the Empire because his pheromones held over eighty-percent compatibility with Imperial Marshal Si Jinyan. Since Chi Li was an alpha and had failed omega recruitment standards, he underwent extensive omega modification, pheromone alteration, clinical testing, and counter-surveillance training to pass as a compatible omega from West City. 1 30

His cover required regular omega-modification injections, with pheromones dissipating faster after close contact with Si Jinyan. The treatment later became unstable, repeatedly triggering severe heats and susceptible periods. 4 18

Chi Li later learns that the Merfolk Core near his heart is a black Scale that young Si Jinyan tore from his own heart and implanted into Chi Li’s chest. He is proud and reluctant to appear weak or accept care. This stubbornness extends to refusing medical examinations, insisting on walking despite exhaustion, and trying to endure severe physical crises alone. 15 23 41

Despite his professional detachment, Chi Li is considerate toward vulnerable people. He cares for his assumed grandmother, worries deeply over Si Jinyan’s injuries, protects teammates, and teaches recruits with strict but patient guidance. 9 12 44 47

His mission gradually conflicts with his attachment to Si Jinyan. Jealousy over Si Jinyan’s political marriage, distress during the hostage rescue, and his continued monitoring of Imperial news after returning to Loran reveal feelings he struggles to acknowledge. 9 10 42

After recovering his childhood memories, Chi Li becomes more openly willing to trust Si Jinyan while continuing to insist on his own autonomy. Chi Li enters the Empire as “Number 06,” a supposedly impoverished omega volunteer selected for compatibility testing with Si Jinyan. He survives Si Jinyan’s pheromonal pressure, gains the Marshal’s trust by soothing his condition, and moves into the Marshal’s residence to continue his intelligence work. 1 2

While posing as timid and admiring, Chi Li investigates Si Jinyan’s estate, researches his suspiciously incomplete history, and seeks access to classified rooms and records. His growing affection complicates his effort to treat their relationship as a mission. 3 4 7 9

Hostage Crisis and Abduction

During a West City hostage crisis, Chi Li deliberately suppresses his combat abilities to protect his cover. Si Jinyan shields him from two bullets, leaving Chi Li profoundly unsettled by the Marshal’s sacrifice. 10 11

Chi Li later becomes the target of an assassination attempt and is abducted by mercenaries. He conceals his training, sends Si Jinyan the kidnappers’ location, endures forced pheromone extraction, and escapes by killing guards despite severe injuries. 18 19 20

Merfolk Mysteries

After collapsing near the coast, Chi Li encounters a mysterious figure who identifies him as a possible royal descendant before he is rescued by Bai Qi. Bai Qi later reveals that members of his bloodline can sense one another in danger, raising questions about Chi Li’s own origins. 20 21 26

Chi Li investigates the Humanoid Weapon Project and discovers evidence of Si Jinyan’s merfolk identity. His superiors elevate the operation to S-class and order him to determine whether Si Jinyan is a modified or evolved human. 28 30

Exposure and Escape

Qiu Rui ultimately exposes Chi Li as a Loran alpha, former mercenary, and Intelligence Department spy. His deception and investigation push Si Jinyan into a dangerous, unstable confrontation with him. 30 32

Amid Imperial schemes involving Bai Qi, the Merfolk Core, and Si Jinyan’s loss of control, Chi Li is shot near the heart with a Mermaid-scale bullet. He later escapes the Empire through routes apparently arranged by Si Jinyan and returns to Loran. 37 40 41

Return to Loran

Back in Loran, Chi Li resumes mercenary work, military training, and intelligence duties while concealing the trauma of his time with Si Jinyan. He continues following news of the Marshal and suffers recurring dreams and unexplained physical changes. 42 43

A medical report reveals that Chi Li is in the early stages of pregnancy, an outcome he considers impossible because he is an alpha. Before he can process the result, he accepts a body-double protection mission, during which Si Jinyan infiltrates the secured location and confronts him again. 45 46 47

Reunion and Recovered Past

After reuniting with Chi Li, Si Jinyan keeps him at a secluded villa while his condition continues worsening. Lu Jiu identifies Chi Li as an Enigma, and Chi Li’s changing body becomes central to efforts to stabilize Si Jinyan without allowing him to become an Aberrant Form. 53 72 73

Bai Qi offers to restore the memories Chi Li lost before the age of eight. Chi Li eventually accepts and remembers his childhood friendship with Jin, his fathers’ involvement with the Luolan Direct Research Institute, and the violent attack that separated him from Si Jinyan. 73 75 78

The recovered memories reveal that Jin gave Chi Li a Scale from his own heart before they were separated. This act explains the Merfolk Core, their lasting connection, and much of the unnatural physical influence they exert over one another. 74 78

Aberrant Form Crisis

When Chi Li receives an emergency message indicating that Bo Lang’s mercenary corps has encountered an Aberrant Form, he asks Si Jinyan to help locate them. The request marks a major shift in Chi Li’s willingness to rely on Si Jinyan, and he later insists on joining the investigation himself. 107 111

Chi Li fights alongside Si Jinyan and Geng Ji against the forces behind the Aberrant Form experiments. He uncovers that the Empire’s royal faction funded an incubation facility, used human subjects in its experiments, and attempted to cultivate a controllable Gu King through the devouring of failed Aberrant Forms. 116 118

After learning that missing soldiers and mercenaries may have been infected or experimented upon, Chi Li attacks Liasuo in anger. He later kills Liasuo during a final confrontation, only to be overwhelmed by dozens of Aberrant Forms before Si Jinyan reaches him. 118 127

As Si Jinyan nears complete loss of control, Chi Li uses the heart-scale and ancient Mermaid Language in an attempt to reach him. Their actions frame the climax of the crisis as a mutual act of protection and sacrifice. 127

Epilogue

Chi Li and Si Jinyan later raise their son, Si Chi, together. Chi Li remains affectionate and perceptive within their family, balancing Si Jinyan’s possessiveness with Si Chi’s need to grow independent. 138

After Si Chi enters military academy, Chi Li and Si Jinyan spend their honeymoon among ocean islands, holding hands as their matching rings touch. 138
