Background / History

Before becoming Shen Tingjue, Lin Zhao served as Crown Prince Xiao Hanye's shadow-guard commander and right-hand man. Xiao personally appointed him to lead the shadow guards and bestowed the Shadowchaser Sword upon him; Lin Zhao also accompanied him through campaigns, including the harsh fighting at Twilight Cloud Pass. 30

While protecting Xiao Hanye from assassins, Lin Zhao was wounded and fell into a ravine. He disappeared for two months, leaving Xiao to believe his most trusted guard might be dead. 1 24 49

He survived but was rescued from the mountains in a severely weakened state with almost no memories. Princess Changping and the Prime Minister adopted him as their son, named him Shen Tingjue, and brought him into a life of exceptional imperial favor. 1
