"So much has happened during this time. By the way, how is Lusamine?"
Inside a private room at Hot Aurora, Xia Chen waited for Cynthia and the others after ordering, while chatting with Suiren about what had happened in Alola during his time in the Ultra World.
Suiren's expression darkened. "Aunt Lusamine... isn't doing well. The joint judgment of the Ten Leagues sentenced her to death."
Suiren and Lillie were good friends, so she naturally sympathized with her friend's mother's plight, even if Lusamine truly had committed an unforgivable crime against the Alola Region.
Xia Chen remained calm. If someone made a mistake, they had to own it. That paranoid, scheming woman was not worth sympathizing with.
If he sympathized with her, then who would sympathize with all the people and Pokémon who had died in this disaster?
Compared to that, he was more worried about the innocent Lillie.
Xia Chen asked, "What about Lillie? Is she okay?"
Suiren looked even more despondent. If her feelings toward Lusamine stemmed from her status as "her friend's mother," then what she felt for Lillie was genuine heartache.
"The last time I saw Lillie was a week ago. She said she was fine, but her eyes were so red from crying."
Xia Chen paused slightly. He could imagine how that kind yet resilient girl must have felt at the time.
On one side was her closest family; on the other was righteousness. For an eighteen-year-old girl not to collapse under such circumstances was already incredibly difficult, let alone someone like Lillie, who could still turn around and comfort the friends worried about her.
After thinking for a moment, Suiren added, "Gladion seemed a little calmer, though."
Xia Chen pondered briefly. "That kid really is more levelheaded. With him looking after Lillie, I'm relieved."
