Jayce's expression remained calm, but the corner of his eye twitched.
Super Vision told him there was no one nearby, but Super Hearing told him that tens of millions of refugees were hiding beneath this ruined city.
"Did you do this?"
Sparta nodded lightly. "Yes, sir."
Jayce let out a sigh, seemingly extremely helpless. "Well... done."
"Come with me. Big Mouth Star has surrendered. Let's find the others."
Jayce did not dwell too much on Sparta's actions. Without looking back, he turned and left.
Sparta did not think much of it either. Since Jayce had not held him accountable, he silently followed.
The two flew through the air one after the other, arriving at Big Mouth Star's capital before long.
At that moment, nearly half of Big Mouth Star's capital had been reduced to rubble. The unextinguished flames and black smoke rising from the ruins all spoke of the devastation here.
Jayce and Sparta descended from the sky and landed not far from Clayton.
Ten Big-Mouthians knelt before Clayton.
They were covered in wounds, their clothes soaked in blood, their eyes numb and vacant.
"Well, if it isn't Captain Jayce and diligent Sparta."
Jayce glanced at the kneeling Big-Mouthians before turning his gaze to Clayton.
"What's the situation now?"
Clayton nudged one of the kneeling Big-Mouthians with his foot.
"These are the ones who survived the mutual slaughter. I promised them that only the last ten would get to live."
"It's a shame you missed such a great show, Captain. You have no idea—just to survive, these people tore into each other like stray dogs by the roadside."
After hearing about the ten Big-Mouthians, Sparta stared at Clayton with disgust.
This guy was truly nauseating.
Even if Clayton had simply killed those Big-Mouthians, it would have been better than tormenting them this way.
Clayton, the Viltrumite born evil, he would personally...
Jayce remained expressionless, as though he had long grown accustomed to Clayton's methods.
"The Big-Mouthians have surrendered. Your mission is complete."
Clayton dug at his ear, looking somewhat unwilling. "Weren't we supposed to reduce Big Mouth Star's population by thirty percent?"
Jayce shot Clayton a cold look. "Whether you kill them or reduce the population by thirty percent."
"The ultimate mission was to make Big Mouth Star submit to the Empire. Since they have already surrendered, the mission is complete."
Clayton's expression shifted constantly. In the end, he raised both hands above his head in a gesture of surrender.
"Fine, fine. I understand."
As soon as he spoke, his figure suddenly vanished. When he reappeared, all ten Big-Mouthians who had been kneeling on the ground died in an instant.
At the sight, Sparta could not help stepping forward, his voice cold.
"What are you doing?"
"Didn't you say those ten Big-Mouthians would live? Why did you kill them anyway?!"
Faced with Sparta's questioning, Clayton waved his hand indifferently.
"As everyone knows, I don't keep my word."
Jayce quietly stepped between them. "Stop talking about such meaningless things. I don't want to say it a second time."
"Follow me."
Clayton gave Sparta a provocative glance, then shot into the sky and followed closely behind Jayce.
Sparta closed his eyes and took a deep breath before flying into the sky as well.
Some time later, everyone had gathered.
They stood atop a mountain, discussing the details of the earlier battle and what they had done.
Only Jayce and Sparta stood at the edge of a cliff away from the crowd, silently looking down over this stretch of the Big Mouth Star Continent.
"I was preparing to cross the ocean to a city on another continent, but six carrier battle groups stopped me. You all know what I'm like—I didn't waste a word before sinking all six carrier battle groups. Their weapons felt like they were scratching an itch."
"At the time, nearly a thousand fighter jets were chasing me. They had no idea I was just toying with them. If I wanted to, I could have destroyed them all in a very short time."
"I shot down some helicopters and killed all the Big-Mouthians in an entire city. They begged me then, but I killed them anyway. A bunch of weak insects had no right to beg for mercy."
"I destroyed half a city, killed millions of resistance fighters, and burned many survivors to death. I also made them slaughter each other. Any Big-Mouthian I came across, no one got to live. Hahahahahaha."
"I..."
They flaunted their achievements, unable to hide the pride on their faces. Or rather, they had not tried to hide it at all.
To them, it was a massacre, but also an honorable accomplishment worth discussing. They had not the slightest awareness of their own cruelty and inhumanity.
Jayce and Sparta stood at the cliff's edge, silently listening to their excited conversation.
Suddenly, Luke's curious voice carried over.
"Sparta, you're so strong. You must have done better than all of us, right? Can you tell us about it?"
Sparta opened his mouth, unsure how to answer.
In truth, because of the kindness in his heart, his record was the worst among them all.
After thinking for a few seconds, Sparta vaguely brushed it off. "Uh... yeah... I ran into a lot of troops, really a lot. As for the outcome... you know..."
After saying that, Sparta forced a difficult smile onto his face, one that said, "You should understand."
Luke scratched his head in confusion. Then, as though he had suddenly thought of something, he came to a realization and slammed his right fist into his left palm.
"No wonder we didn't run into that many troops. Most of them must have been with you."
"As expected of diligent Sparta. You easily held back tens of millions of soldiers."
"Yeah, Sparta is so strong. I wouldn't even be surprised if he held back hundreds of millions of troops, let alone tens of millions."
"You know what, you might actually be right. It may not have been tens of millions, but hundreds of millions."
"..."
The scene of Sparta brutally beating Clayton was still fresh in everyone's mind. Not a single person doubted the truth of those words.
Killing tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions, of Big-Mouthian soldiers in a single hour would have been effortless for Sparta.
None of them doubted it. Only Clayton fixed Sparta with a probing gaze.
Seeing Luke act as though he had suddenly become an all-knowing expert, Sparta followed the crowd's lead and nodded, forcing out a faint smile as he gave a dry laugh.
"Ha ha, indeed... I ran into some rather tricky circumstances."
His voice was low, as though he were truly recalling a brutal battle rather than the tens of millions of lives he had personally spared.
This kid.
Only Jayce, who knew the truth, glanced sideways at him, but he did not expose Sparta's lie.
Above the city Sparta had destroyed, he had indeed seen the corpses of Big-Mouthian soldiers. But compared to an army of tens of millions, they were merely a drop in the ocean.
