Background
Arrival and Medicine King Pavilion
Jiang Lu arrived from the Mortal Realm under unclear circumstances and initially relied on a local woman, later called Auntie, to learn basic information about the cultivation world 2. She entered the Medicine King Pavilion’s West River City branch after passing its plant-sensitivity test, registering under her real name and beginning as an apprentice 8.
Assigned to Master Wen’s medicinal garden, Jiang Lu initially could not read. Under his instruction, she memorized spirit plants, their habits, and their uses with near-photographic recall while deliberately concealing how quickly she learned 9. Within two months, she had read the pavilion library’s works on cultivation, spirit plants, alchemy, and the wider realm 9.
Her precise processing of spirit plants attracted the attention of Huang Mei and Alchemy Courtyard One. She became a formal disciple there, gained opportunities to observe pill refinement, and rose to first-grade alchemist status before joining the Beast Tide expedition 20 23.
Recognition as Ye Qing’s Disciple
Elder Ye Qingfeng, also known as Ye Qing, noticed Jiang Lu’s unusual foundation, broad meridians, and rapid but stable cultivation 34. Jiang Lu accepted his offer of discipleship after confirming he would provide protection, resources, and personal instruction 35.
A spirit-testing stone later revealed that Jiang Lu possesses the exceptionally rare Chaos Body and Chaos Spirit Roots. The constitution allows her to absorb spiritual energy of every color and cultivate numerous disciplines, but requires far more spiritual energy than ordinary cultivation 35. Her provisional recognition as Ye Qing’s disciple was later formalized in a public Medicine King Pavilion apprenticeship ceremony 93.
Flowing Cloud Sect and Ancient Inheritance
While concealing her identity as “Jiang Ye,” Jiang Lu entered Flowing Cloud Sect with Fu Yao’s support. She displayed Five-Element Mixed Spiritual Roots to hide her Chaos Spirit Root and was accepted as an inner disciple of Jade Radiance Peak 65 67. Ye Qing permitted the arrangement as an opportunity to study elsewhere rather than a betrayal of their master-disciple bond 67.
In the Linlan Secret Realm, Jiang Lu encountered Carefree Venerable’s inheritance site. After questioning his motives and ensuring the legacy was freely given, she accepted his techniques, knowledge, and remaining spiritual power 79 80.
Mortal Realm Trial
Jiang Lu entered the Great Qian Dynasty’s Mortal Realm to investigate demonic cultivators and the collapse of the realm’s fortune 97. The Mortal Realm’s Heavenly Dao asked her to eliminate invading evil entities, reduce the chaos of the troubled age, and mend the realm’s gaps in exchange for Merit Power and a Heavenly Dao Blessing 103.
She repeatedly destroyed demonic cultivators, dismantled evil formations, and aided mortals endangered by war and flooding 99 107 119. After exhausting herself while helping establish the World-Saving Grand Formation, Jiang Lu awakened in the body of a white kitten and lived among mortals as White Snow 120 123.
At Gong Chenyue’s coronation, Jiang Lu’s spiritual form manifested above the imperial palace and publicly blessed the new Empress, whose rule ended the civil war and restored the dynasty’s stability 125.
Heaven’s Chosen Ranking
After returning to the Medicine King Pavilion, Jiang Lu trained relentlessly across the “hundred arts” of cultivation, using sword practice as rest between studies 128. Ye Qingluan selected her as the pavilion’s concealed representative for the Heaven’s Chosen Ranking and instructed her to hide her Chaos Spirit Root, gu arts, formations, talismans, and other trump cards 130.
Jiang Lu rose onto all three major rankings before decisively defeating Chen Cheng and Jiang Wenxu in the Heaven’s Chosen competition 167 172. Her victory over Jiang Wenxu secured her place among the top three competitors 172.
Appearance
Jiang Lu is described as having delicate brows and eyes, an otherworldly bearing, and a gentle appearance that often causes others to underestimate her 87 172.
- Uses masks, concealment rings, and altered clothing to avoid recognition 44 46.
- Can present herself as a plain Foundation Establishment cultivator or disguise her true realm as First Layer Golden Core 44 171.
- Her composed, soft-spoken demeanor contrasts sharply with her rapid, forceful combat style 167 172.
Personality
Jiang Lu is practical and strongly self-protective. She studies local power structures, memorizes escape routes in unfamiliar territory, avoids unnecessary debts, and conceals abilities that could attract dangerous attention 57 130 157. She is also opportunistic without being reckless: she will seize abandoned treasure, but retreats when continued greed would place her at unreasonable risk 43.
Despite her caution, Jiang Lu is compassionate toward innocent people, spirit creatures, and those who have shown her kindness. She healed the Chen Family ancestor to repay Auntie’s earlier help, rewarded helpful tree spirits, and chose to aid civilians after defeating demonic cultivators 51 99 119. Her time in the Mortal Realm taught her that compassion does not mean personally carrying every suffering in the world 125.
She enjoys learning nearly every cultivation discipline available to her and enthusiastically embraced the prospect of becoming an all-around cultivator after learning of her Chaos Spirit Root 36. She is nonetheless shy around public praise and uncomfortable with formal status despite repeatedly being treated as a senior figure within the Medicine King Pavilion 56 167.
