Background / History

Li You was an orphan from another world whose main hobby was watching anime. He awakens in Uchiha Itachi’s body during the Uchiha massacre, overwhelmed by Itachi’s memories of his childhood, Shisui’s death, and Mikoto’s last request to protect Sasuke. Accepting the identity of Itachi Uchiha, he removes Fugaku’s eyes, preserves locks of Fugaku and Mikoto’s hair, and vows to revive them someday while caring for Sasuke 1.

He conceals his knowledge of Obito’s identity and role in the massacre, killing a clansman before Obito to maintain his cover. After fleeing Konoha, he presents his defection to Hiruzen as an infiltration mission, asks that Sasuke be protected, and becomes a rogue ninja by carving through the Konoha symbol on his forehead protector 1 2 4.

Itachi enters Akatsuki through Obito and Pain, initially partnering with Biwa Jūzō on bounty missions. His worsening eyesight and interest in Fugaku’s Mangekyō Sharingan lead him to seek Orochimaru’s biological expertise, offering Mangekyō-related cells in exchange for research assistance and a Ryūchi Cave snake contract 8 9 25 26.

After fighting beside Jūzō in the Mist Village, Itachi unlocks Susanoo’s second form and the Yata Mirror, then seals the Three-Tails inside himself after freeing Yagura from Obito’s control. He later falsely reports Jūzō dead to protect his defection 31 32 34.

A failed biological transformation leaves Itachi hospitalized and apparently dying. Pain discards him as an unusable asset, while Obito extracts the Three-Tails and steals his Amaterasu eye. Itachi destroys his Tsukuyomi eye rather than let Obito take it, then escapes to Ryūchi Cave through Reverse Summoning 43.

At Ryūchi Cave, Itachi regains his health through a transformation that replaces his genes, DNA, and blood. The experience turns his formerly detached attitude toward Obito into a personal resolve for vengeance 44 46.

Itachi is introduced as a twelve-year-old boy with a composed, beautiful appearance that often causes others to underestimate him. His eyes turn crimson when the Sharingan is active and take on a pinwheel-like pattern when he activates the Mangekyō Sharingan 5 9.

Despite his reputation, he is not consistently cold. He is shameless about making partners pay for food, dislikes soldier pills, gets lost while traveling, and values ordinary comforts such as grilled fish, baths, and sleep 9 10 18 37. He can also become theatrical and sadistic within Tsukuyomi, constructing elaborate scenarios to psychologically break Akai Sanjin 15 16.
