Background / History

Wanda was born in Sokovia. When she was ten, a Stark Industries missile strike killed her parents, leaving her and her younger brother Pietro orphaned. Baron Strucker later took them in, recruited them into Hydra, and eventually used them as experimental subjects after Wanda resisted Hydra’s assignments and attempted to leave. 109 112

Strucker imprisoned the siblings in a Hydra dungeon, where Pietro was tortured and injected with dangerous chemicals. Loren Morgan broke into the base, gave Wanda a dagger, and allowed her to kill her captors herself. Desperate to save Pietro, Wanda pledged loyalty to Loren in exchange for treatment for her brother. 111

Although grateful for the rescue, Wanda initially distrusted Loren’s promises because they resembled Strucker’s earlier manipulation. Her compassion also made her hesitate when given the chance to execute Strucker. Pietro’s condition ultimately convinced her to kill him, ending Hydra’s control over the siblings. 112

At Morgan Manor, Pietro received treatment for the chemicals in his body. Wanda gradually accepted Loren’s household as a safer home than Hydra, then volunteered for Loren’s Human Superpower Awakening experiment so Pietro could instead return to Sokovia and live independently. 113 115 160
