In a pale blue sweater with its collar neatly turned down, he looked like the model husband in an old movie.

Wanda came out carrying two glasses of lemonade, her skirt swaying.

"Darling, did you hear the community committee is holding a talent show this afternoon?"

Chu Hang took a glass and sipped.

"Mrs. Hart just mentioned it. She said she has high hopes for our grand finale."

Wanda looked down with a smile, twisting the edge of her apron around her fingers.

"I just think that if we're starting a new life here, we should take part in more community events. Everyone says you're the most talented person in town."

Chu Hang set down the shears and slipped an arm around her shoulders.

"You've already talked me up, so I can't let you down. But are you sure they want to see magic, not a hedge trimmed into a rabbit?"

Wanda laughed and rested her head on his shoulder.

"If you're the one performing, they'll love it."

Agnes jogged over from across the street in a purple tracksuit, waving a gaudy flyer. Her voice carried two blocks.

"Hey, you talented lovebirds! Ready to wow the crowd?"

She stopped outside the fence. Her gaze swept over Chu Hang, carrying a curiosity she kept carefully hidden.

Chu Hang nodded.

"We'll do our best. I hope your gardening lecture goes well, too."

Agnes gave two dry laughs.

"Don't remind me. Everyone's waiting for Mr. Anthony's moment of magic. I hear you've prepared a big surprise?"

Chu Hang only smiled.

He could feel faint ripples of magic around Agnes, probing the barrier of laws surrounding his body.
