History

Lan Yu was an orphan from Mushroom Village whose parents possessed mushroom spirits but no innate Spirit Power. At six, he awakened Bifulong as his martial spirit with Rank 2 innate Spirit Power. Recognizing Bifulong from his previous life, Lan Yu refused Spirit Hall’s recruitment, judging that his apparent lack of talent and Bifulong’s unusual nature made secrecy more valuable than institutional support 1.

Rather than train conventionally, Lan Yu directed Bifulong to establish an underground Mycelium Network. The network fed gathered Spirit Power back into him, accelerated his cultivation, and later became the foundation of his surveillance, travel, combat, and religious influence. While studying at Notting College, he used mushrooms to hunt, earn money, and build a customer base for Bifulong’s future faith movement 1 2 3.

After Xiaolü’s sacrifice granted him his first hundred-thousand-year ring, Lan Yu abandoned Notting College and travelled through impoverished regions of the Heaven Dou Empire. He distributed mushrooms as food, taught communities to cultivate them, and used the resulting dependence and gratitude to expand worship of the Sage Lord of Fungi 5.

Over the following years, Lan Yu developed a faction of believers and empowered allies. He recruited Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing, established a network in Soto City, humiliated Shrek Academy’s teachers, and defeated Zhao Wuji, Tang Hao, and later other high-ranking opponents through fungal terrain, spores, and the Jadeplume Terrorshroom 7 10 12 16.

In the Star Dou Great Forest, Lan Yu recruited Xiao Wu, Daming, and Erming into Bifulong’s faith. He intended to turn the forest into a symbiotic mushroom ecosystem in which spirit beasts cultivated and protected the network while benefiting from its improved cultivation conditions 16 17.

Lan Yu later seized control of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, fungified its Immortal Herbs, and began cultivating them toward the hundred-thousand-year level. He cured Dugu Bo’s inherited poison by transforming the Green Phosphor Serpent Emperor into the Thunder Phosphor Serpent Emperor, gaining Dugu Bo and eventually Dugu Yan as believers 26 27 49.

As Botanical Academy’s leader and benefactor, Lan Yu used fungal modifications, spirit spirits, and enhanced spirit rings to elevate its students beyond conventional limits. The team won the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Tournament after Spirit Hall forfeited the championship match 33 34 49.

Lan Yu’s rise brought him into direct conflict with Spirit Hall. After surviving Bibi Dong’s assassination attempt, he forced her to apologize and compensate him before later sealing her in a mycelial cocoon with the covert assistance of Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo 39 41 50.

Appearance

Lan Yu is described as handsome after reappearing in Soto City. In battle, his most recognizable features are his six red Spirit Rings, fungal constructs, and mycelial wings 9 17 37.

Personality

Lan Yu is pragmatic, cautious, and highly strategic. At the beginning of his journey, he prioritizes concealment and long-term growth over joining Spirit Hall or provoking powerful figures before he has sufficient strength 1 2.

He is blunt toward arrogance and has little patience for authority based solely on status. He openly dismisses Yu Xiaogang, Shrek Academy, Tang Hao, Bibi Dong, and other powerful figures when he considers them hypocritical, incompetent, or dangerous 9 11 40.

Lan Yu’s compassion is selective. He distributes food and cultivation opportunities to the poor, rescues Lina from an auction, and seeks to preserve A Rou’s soul, but he also uses fear, dependence, religious conversion, and psychological pressure to secure loyalty 5 32 50.
