Background / History

Zhuqing is pursued through a remote forest by a black-clad woman she calls “Sister” and several subordinates. Though wounded and outnumbered, she maintains controlled breathing and refuses to show weakness. Luo Yan intervenes after being attacked himself, scattering the pursuers with mist and emotion-made creations; after the attackers flee, Zhuqing introduces herself to him. 32

While stranded with Luo Yan, Zhuqing explains the brutal succession system linking the Dai and Zhu families. The Dai princes and Zhu daughters are forced into lethal competition from childhood; losers are crippled or killed, while the surviving pair gains the right to stand together. 33

She is betrothed to Dai Mubai, the Dai Family’s second prince. Although she has no romantic expectations of him, she seeks him in Heaven Dou City because their linked fates mean neither can survive alone. Her goal is to force him to stop hiding from their shared responsibility. 33

Zhuqing and Luo Yan travel together for a month through three towns and four small cities, searching for a tall blond man from Star Luo. When Fallen Soul Masters ambush them near a river, she fights back-to-back with Luo Yan and kills one attacker with a swift claw strike to the throat. 34

Despite her reserved manner, she possesses a strong will to live. She refuses to accept the Dai–Zhu families’ system passively and crosses the countryside to find Dai Mubai, determined to make him face their shared fate. 33

Her trust develops through action rather than open affection. During her travels with Luo Yan, she gradually accepts him as a companion, relying on their silent routines and their ability to protect one another in danger. 34
