An Chen sat in the spectator stands when he suddenly felt a fluctuation in his Soul Power.
His heart stirred. He immediately closed his eyes and focused, discovering that his Soul Power bottleneck had loosened somewhat.
An Chen was overjoyed. He knew he was close to breaking through to level thirty.
But then he looked at the noisy Soul Arena around him.
He got up and walked toward Dai Mubai.
"Boss Dai, I might need to return to the academy first," An Chen said.
Dai Mubai asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Why not head back together later?"
An Chen shook his head and explained, "I feel like the battle just now has pushed my Soul Power close to a breakthrough. I want to return to the academy and cultivate first."
Realization dawned on Dai Mubai. "So that's it. Then hurry on back. Be careful."
An Chen nodded and turned to leave.
Watching An Chen's retreating figure, Dai Mubai said thoughtfully, "That kid's pretty talented."
An Chen left the spacious Suotuo Great Soul Arena and walked down the streets of Suotuo City.
This way, I can avoid Flender too. Not bad. An Chen thought.
Before long, An Chen arrived at Shrek Academy. After returning to his dormitory, he sat cross-legged and began cultivating.
Time passed, and before he knew it, the next morning had arrived.
An Chen opened his eyes, stood up, and stretched his body.
After a night of cultivation, his Soul Power had improved considerably, but he was still just short of a breakthrough.
He then noticed that Tang San's bed was empty. He must have already gotten up to cultivate his Purple Demon Eye.
Meanwhile, Oscar was still sitting cross-legged on his bed, cultivating. He seemed to have entered deep meditation.
An Chen did not disturb him. He turned and left the dormitory for the Cafeteria to eat breakfast.
When An Chen arrived at the Cafeteria, he found that everyone except Ning Rongrong and Oscar had already arrived.
The moment he entered, he sensed that something was off. An Chen was puzzled at first, but quickly understood what was going on.
Ma Hongjun had entered just ahead of An Chen. He was curious and wanted to say something, but after seeing Dai Mubai's gloomy expression, he ultimately ate in silence.
"Fatty, are you going out again tonight?" Just as breakfast was nearly over, Dai Mubai suddenly asked.
Ma Hongjun shook his head and answered quietly, "Hehe, I already vented my Evil Fire yesterday. I won't be going out for the next few days."
Dai Mubai nodded. "Good. I'm heading out today to find those twins from last time."
Ma Hongjun's eyes lit up. "Boss Dai, if you're eating meat, will I at least get some soup?"
Dai Mubai said irritably, "That sort of thing is only enjoyable when both sides are willing. A forced melon isn't sweet." As he spoke, he deliberately glanced at Zhu Zhuqing.
Zhu Zhuqing showed no reaction, as though she had not heard their conversation. She simply continued eating quietly.
An Chen took another sip of the plain porridge in his bowl. He had no intention of meddling in those two people's affairs.
"An Chen, did you break through?" Dai Mubai looked at An Chen again. "Are you going tonight?"
"Not yet. I'm still a little short." An Chen shook his head. "I won't be going. I'll see if I can break through in the next few days."
There was not much time left for eating before the class bell rang, and everyone hurried to the Playground.
There was no teacher there, only Ning Rongrong standing by herself.
She looked somewhat haggard. Her eyes were red, and she did not seem to be in good spirits.
After An Chen and the others waited for a while, an old man walked over.
An Chen's previously tense mood immediately relaxed, though he was also somewhat puzzled.
According to the original plot, Flender should have been teaching today. Why had it become Li Yusong instead?
An Chen activated Spirit Vision to observe him. Li Yusong's aura was normal. Other than being somewhat dim due to his age, there was nothing unusual about it, and his emotions were calm as well.
Compared to the day he mutated...
Wait. Why hadn't I used Spirit Vision to observe Li Yusong that day? And Flender? I hadn't looked at either of them even once?
An Chen's heart sank. Was my intuition protecting me? Was it keeping me from seeing things I shouldn't see?
"The dean has business to attend to today, so I'll be teaching you." Li Yusong walked before the group, swept his gaze over everyone, and slowly said, "Where is Oscar? Is he sleeping in again?"
An Chen and Tang San exchanged a glance. Then An Chen said, "When I left, I saw that he was still cultivating. He may have entered deep meditation and hasn't awakened yet."
Li Yusong frowned. "This class cannot proceed without him. Go call him."
An Chen nodded and was just about to leave when he saw Oscar hurrying over.
Yet there was no panic over being late on his face. Instead, he looked utterly excited.
"Oscar, why are you late? Do you want to run laps?" Li Yusong asked with displeasure.
Oscar hurriedly shook his head. "No, Teacher Li, listen to my explanation. I broke through to level thirty!"
"What?" Not only Li Yusong, but everyone turned to look at Oscar at the same time, including Ning Rongrong.
Oscar was a Food-type Soul Master, one of the most difficult types of Soul Masters to cultivate, yet he had broken through to level thirty at fourteen.
"That's wonderful! I'll tell the dean this good news later!" Li Yusong said excitedly.
Even Dai Mubai's expression was no longer gloomy. He walked over and patted Oscar on the shoulder. "Congratulations, Little Ao. You may be a little slower than me, but as a Food-type Soul Master, you're already the most outstanding genius I've ever seen."
An Chen and the others offered their congratulations as well.
Ning Rongrong stood where she was, looking at Oscar with a complicated expression. Zhu Zhuqing, meanwhile, lowered her head, seemingly lost in thought.
"All right, class begins." Li Yusong's aged voice brought everyone back to their senses.
"Today's lesson is very simple." Li Yusong looked at Oscar. "Oscar, you are today's main character. For today's lesson, everyone except you must eat one of each of the two types of Sausage you create."
"Huh?" Xiao Wu frowned. "What kind of lesson is that?"
Li Yusong said blandly, "It's called adaptability training. Oscar's soul incantations may sound disgusting, but their effects are the best I've ever seen. You will cultivate and train together in the future. If you can't even overcome this little mental barrier, how will you cooperate?"
He paused, then continued, "On the battlefield, if you want to survive, you have to eat whatever you can. Forget Sausages—even rats and cockroaches must be eaten when necessary."
The three girls' faces turned pale.
Ning Rongrong covered her mouth and nearly vomited.
"Everyone must complete this lesson, or there will be no need for them to stay. You should learn from An Chen in this regard. He didn't disdain Oscar's Sausages. During the practical test, he ate several of them." Li Yusong glanced at An Chen and continued.
An Chen stood at the back with an expressionless face.
Your minds are just too filthy. As long as you don't think about it that way, it's fine.
Shrek's Cafeteria only had steamed buns and porridge, and An Chen had not been full to begin with.
"Big Sausage Go."
"Little Sausage."
Oscar recited his soul incantations, and two Sausages appeared in his hands.
"Come on, everyone, have a taste." He awkwardly held them out.
"I'll do it."
A crisp voice rang out. Ning Rongrong strode up to Oscar and accepted both Sausages with her hands.
Everyone was stunned. Aside from An Chen, none of them had expected her to be the first to step forward.
Ning Rongrong's expression was calm, but the unwillingness in her eyes gave her away.
After thinking it over for a night, she had still decided to stay. Oscar's breakthrough to level thirty had stirred something deep within her.
Ning Rongrong picked up the large Sausage and took a fierce bite.
Oscar instinctively took a step back.
Ning Rongrong finished both Sausages in just a few bites.
She had been somewhat resistant at first, but after tasting them, she discovered that they actually tasted quite good.
The large Sausage especially turned into a warm current that flowed through her body after entering her stomach, refreshing her spirit. Oscar asked tentatively, "Were you hungry?"
Ning Rongrong licked her lips and revealed a faint smile. "Your Sausage feels pretty good when I bite through it in one bite."
Oscar's entire body stiffened, and he could not help shivering.
Seeing this, An Chen stepped forward as well.
"Give me a few more."
Oscar recited the soul incantations again, and two Sausages appeared in his hands.
An Chen accepted them and took a bite without changing his expression.
He found that the Little Sausage tasted pretty good too.
"Thanks." An Chen patted Oscar on the shoulder.
Oscar's eyes lit up. "Good brother, you're the only one who loves eating my Sausages!"
Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun stepped forward afterward, each eating a Sausage.
Tang San was naturally no exception.
Though Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing hesitated somewhat, they ultimately ate them too.
Li Yusong nodded in satisfaction. "Very good. All of you have passed today's lesson. Remember, Oscar is your logistical supply. Forget those meaningless soul incantations. Staying alive is what matters most."
He continued, "I'll report this to the dean. Tomorrow, you may be heading out to hunt Soul Beasts and help Oscar obtain his Soul Ring, so make your preparations."
He then turned and left.
