Background / History

Tang San arrives in Suotu City with Xiao Wu to enroll at Shrek Academy. At the Rose Hotel, he refuses Dai Mubai’s demand for the last available room and fights him despite the large gap in Soul Power. His technique and Blue Silver Grass earn Dai Mubai’s respect, though An Chen must intervene with Black Fog to prevent Dai’s finishing blow from seriously injuring him. 19 20 21

After An Chen saves him, Tang San cautiously accepts him as a traveling companion. Tang San, Xiao Wu, and An Chen travel together to Shrek Academy, where Tang San passes the entrance requirements and joins the other exceptional applicants in Zhao Wuji’s fourth trial. 21 22 24

During the trial, Tang San becomes An Chen’s principal combat partner. He adapts his Blue Silver Grass and hidden weapons to An Chen’s analysis of Zhao Wuji’s soul-power circulation, allowing the pair to withstand the Soul Saint’s attacks until the incense burns out. 25 27 28

He is determined and highly protective of Xiao Wu. He refuses her help against Dai Mubai, panics when the Titan Giant Ape takes her, and pursues the beast despite the danger. 20 41 He also values restraint: he argues against killing harmless soul beasts and prevents Xiao Wu from killing defeated opponents. 34 39

Shrek Academy Entrance Trial
