The Venue

Early the next morning, while the sky was still dim, someone climbed into the black sedan that had arrived as promised outside the courtyard gate.

The driver clearly wasn't much of a talker, and neither was his passenger. As the car traveled through the streets, a "gaze" swept down from above and spotted more black sedans silently merging onto the main road from every direction before rush hour began.

One person, one car. The arrangement seemed solemn and respectful, and it certainly made him feel important.

Li Yun had no particular opinion about it.

To show his respect, he had put on a brand-new black outfit and his old glasses. He looked exceptionally neat and tidy as he headed out.

The driver was skilled, too. Unlike most people behind the wheel, he drove so smoothly that the car's momentum was barely noticeable even when it slowed.

When they reached the venue, the taciturn "driver" personally escorted him inside. After a brief identity check, a staff member at the entrance to the exhibition hall handed him a guest badge. It was made of thin material, but felt pleasant to the touch.

"Mr. Li Yun, welcome. Your seat is number 9 in row 7, section C. Please follow the signs and enter promptly."

That was as far as the driver, who bore clear traces of a military background, could accompany him. Li Yun no longer needed directions, either.

After a brief word of thanks and farewell, Li Yun put on the badge and entered the brightly lit, enormous building. Inside was a space filled with guest facilities, much like a large public conference hall!

The polished floor reflected rows of lights on the ceiling. Straight ahead, a broad, eye-catching banner read: "Welcome, distinguished guests, to today's news-viewing event!"
