Some pupils were extraordinarily slender, clearly the cold vertical pupils of snakes or lizards, their color exceptionally dark. Others were round as jade beads, apparently belonging to some kind of beast. As they moved with the golden palms, their pupils could not withstand the vast golden radiance and had already contracted into black lines, still faintly glowing green.
More bizarre still were the monstrous compound eyes formed from countless overlapping pupils. They looked like towers made of pearls and colored glass. With the slightest movement, they cast out vast patches of dazzling, multicolored fragments of light that made one dizzy and disoriented.
----But more numerous than those were the "human eyes," each with clearly defined black and white.
What was especially terrifying was that all kinds of emotions remained within them: extreme fear, venomous hatred, struggle, or utter despair----
All of them were reflected in those fresh, living eyes embedded in the palms.
