The three were chatting in the Shuttle's rear compartment when the pilot suddenly interrupted:
"Bad news, my lords! Our locator has stopped working!"
Li Qinwu immediately stood and entered the cockpit. A glance at the instrument panel showed that its numbers were completely scrambled. It could no longer determine their position.
He hurriedly asked the pilot:
"Do you know where we were before the navigation instruments failed?"
"Yes, my lord. Roughly a hundred kilometers southwest of Lord Titus's legion.
"My lord, should I try feeling our way northeast? We might find Lord Titus's legion."
Li Qinwu asked another question:
"Do the Shuttle's comms still work?"
The pilot reached out and switched through several channels on the control console. Broken bursts of static came through. The comms were unusable too.
Li Qinwu guessed that they had entered the domain controlled by that Khorne daemon. The extremely concentrated warp energy was enough to disrupt electronic systems.
At this point, electronic and mechanical equipment could no longer be trusted. Human bodies and instincts had instead become their guiding lights.
Li Qinwu looked around and spotted a stretch of barracks on the surface below.
The Fortress World had no villages or rural towns. Everything was administered along military lines.
The surface consisted of either trenches and bunkers or barracks like these, built to house soldiers.
The Fortress World had many landmarks: the Grand Warehouse, the Great Wall, the Anti-Aircraft Gun, and the Grand Fortress.
Of these, the Grand Fortress lay in the north. It was suspected to have been occupied by the fallen Grand Inquisitor, and the Daemon Artifact was there too. It was the Cultists' stronghold.
As long as they found a way north, they could reach the Grand Fortress
