After the test, Li Qinwu piloted the Monarch Knight Mech back to the assembly hall.

He had barely disconnected the Neural Interface and climbed down from the Knight Mech when a crowd of Tech-Priests knelt before him.

"My lord! We wish to serve you and the Divine Machine, to become its components. We beg you to accept us!"

Li Qinwu was delighted. He had been worrying about finding Tech-Priests to maintain his Knight Mechs, and here they were, coming to him.

Normally, Knight Houses sent their less important younger members to the nearest Industrial World to study.

Once they returned, their lives became bound to their Knight Mechs. They became living components. The chief maintenance technician was one such person.

There were exceptions, of course. This time, the Tech-Priests had come to him of their own accord.

That was how members of the Adeptus Mechanicus were: fanatical in their worship of machinery.

Given the chance, they would willingly give up their rights and bind their lives to a Knight Mech, becoming its components.
