Background

The God-Emperor ruled the Imperium of Man for tens of thousands of years as humanity's monarch, a powerful Perpetual, and its greatest Psyker. The Imperial Cult venerates him as humanity's eternal beacon, while those aware of the Imperium's history recognize him as a real ruler rather than a purely mythological deity. 41

He was grievously wounded by his eldest son, Horus, during the rebellion that ended humanity's former prosperity. Since then, he has remained upon the Golden Throne in Terra's Imperial Palace, where his Psychic Power is continually drained. 381 783

Although he possesses divine authority, he refuses to rise from the Golden Throne. Doing so would turn him into a Warp god at the cost of humanity's destruction and the loss of his human nature; he therefore remains seated to protect mankind rather than ascend. 248 851

His attention is limited by the Imperium's scale. When Tzeentch displaced Li Qinwu into an isolated world, the God-Emperor briefly intervened, then departed to address the innumerable prayers and crises across humanity's worlds. 525

The God-Emperor's appearance is not fixed to mortal observers. He uses Psychic Power to present each viewer with an image they regard as most perfect. 42

A crude wooden icon carved by a devout farmer becomes the foundation for Li Qinwu's Emperor Shrine. The shrine establishes the God-Emperor's presence as a practical source of purification, protection, and long-term progression rather than merely a religious symbol. 6 114

Recognition Through Daemon Slaying

After Li uses the shrine to permanently destroy a Tzeentch daemon, the God-Emperor briefly notices him and orders the elimination of ten daemons. Li completes the mission by killing summoned daemons, gaining the Level 1 blessing and beginning a direct relationship with the Emperor. 248 251
