The Emperor's Retainers

"The demon general has been slain! The demon general has been slain! Here is his head!!"

A samurai ran through the Emperor's hall, shouting in excitement.

He carried an enormous, blood-soaked head in his hand. The demon general's face was still frozen in shock, as if he could not believe he had been beheaded.

It was already late at night, but the Emperor's hall was lit with lamps everywhere because of the terror.

And out of fear, the Emperor had summoned all his ministers to stay at his side, so he would have people to talk with and discuss strategies.

As soon as word of the demon general's death returned, the Emperor immediately gathered his ministers for an overnight meeting.

Inside the Emperor's grand hall, the samurai held up the demon general's head and knelt before the Emperor.

The Emperor rose to his feet in disbelief and circled the demon general's head three times.

"What a huge head! What a ferocious face! What sharp teeth!"

A minister beside him hurriedly said, "Your Majesty! Since such a hero can behead a demon general, you must swiftly bring him into your service!"

The Emperor slapped his forehead.

"Quick, quick, quick! Summon the one who beheaded the demon general!"

Before long, Genpei, huge as a giant, strode into the Emperor's palace and knelt before him.

"This commoner, Genpei, pays his respects to Your Majesty!!"

Seeing how broad and powerful Genpei's body was, the Emperor slapped his thigh.

"What magnificent stature! What strength! Remove your faceplate and let me see your face!"

"Yes!"

Genpei removed his faceplate and raised his head.

The moment the Emperor saw his face, confusion appeared in his eyes.
