After leaving the battlefield on the beach, Li Qinwu led his staff onward, following the Gravity Track step by step.
After walking for who knew how long, they left the beach behind and reached a pasture, the sort of grassy field used to raise cattle in rural France.
Rudosen carried the MG42 machine gun over his shoulder and called to Li Qinwu, who was leading the way:
"How long do we have to walk? When will we reach the next era?"
Li Qinwu scouted ahead, watching their surroundings warily in case someone took a shot at them from hiding.
"I don't know, but it shouldn't be much farther.
All these scenes of Old Terra we're seeing are simulations. Human history is too long, with too many events and ancient cities to remember. The creator of the Era Promenade couldn't have devoted too much land to depicting any single period."
Then Li Qinwu pointed at the vast pasture around them.
"Look. Back on the beach at Normandy, there were artillery pieces, machine-gun bunkers, trenches, people coming and going-an incredible amount of detail.
But here, there's nothing except grassland. There aren't even any cows. We're starting to see huge stretches of empty space, which proves this area wasn't a focus of the depiction. We've probably reached the boundary between two eras."
Li Qinwu reasoned that the scenes within the Era Promenade probably depicted an era or a city every ten or twenty kilometers, perhaps every few dozen.
Then, through Warp sorcery or some other little trick of the Chaos Gods, the creator of the Era Promenade made the people living within those eras truly believe they lived in those times!
Mental corruption then made those people unable to see the Gravity Track on the ground, or simply ignore it. It also kept
