Background

Class A is introduced as a divided class rather than a unified group. Two informal power centers form around Sakayanagi Arisu, seated near the front of the classroom, and Katsuragi Kohei, who draws a separate group around himself at the back. Hoshinomiya Rinyu is assigned the seat beside Sakayanagi, placing him near one of the class’s principal factions from the outset. 1

The class begins the school year with 1,000 class points. On May 1, it receives 940 class points—equivalent to 94,000 personal points per student—placing it above every other first-year class. Mashima explains that Class A holds the best graduation opportunities, but can be demoted if its points fall below Class B’s. 4

Although many students initially react with superiority toward Class D, Class A also demonstrates strong academic coordination. After the midterm’s expulsion condition is announced, Rinyu organizes a class-wide tutoring system that receives support from both Sakayanagi’s and Katsuragi’s sides. Every Class A student ultimately passes the midterm, with no score below 60. 5 7

Sakayanagi Faction

Sakayanagi Arisu leads one of Class A’s main circles. Her group is associated with Hashimoto Masayoshi and Kamuro Masumi; Kito Hayato also accompanies the group during the confrontation with Class C. 1 4 9

Sakayanagi exercises authority in inter-class matters. When Ryuen challenges Rinyu’s involvement in Class D’s crisis, she dismisses Class C’s right to interfere with Class A’s decisions. 9

Katsuragi Faction

Katsuragi Kohei leads the opposing informal faction. He favors practical organization and class cooperation, proposing self-introductions in student-ID order and later supporting Rinyu’s study-group plan. 1 2 5

Katsuragi also restrains disruptive behavior from within Class A, reprimanding Yahiko after Yahiko insults Sudo and Class D during the library study session. 5

Formation of the Class Structure

On the first day, Class A is already split between Sakayanagi’s and Katsuragi’s circles. The two leaders immediately clash over whether self-introductions are useful, establishing their competing approaches to class leadership. 1 2

Point-System Revelation

Class A learns that its position is determined by class points, which directly control personal-point distributions. Its 940-point May result confirms its first-place status, while the system’s demotion rules make that status conditional rather than secure. 4

Midterm Study Group

Following Mashima’s warning that failing one subject means expulsion, Rinyu creates a tutoring network for the class. Sakayanagi supports the plan, Katsuragi raises no objection, and the class achieves a full pass on the midterm. 5 7

First-Year Point Withholding

In July, personal points for the entire first-year grade are temporarily withheld during the investigation into a fight between Classes C and D. Class A is financially stable enough to endure the delay, but several students resent being affected and immediately blame Class D. 8 9

Sudo Incident Investigation

When Class D asks Rinyu to search Class A for witnesses to Sudo’s alleged fight with Class C, he questions the class and receives universal denials. He then reports a possible lead involving Sakura Airi to Kushida, Ayanokoji, and Horikita. 9 10
