"Mr. Meng."
Hearing the voice, Meng Shangzhi looked up, but after just one glance, he immediately looked away. His hands hovered above the keyboard for a long while without falling. It was not until Bai Yunsheng dragged a chair over and sat beside him that Meng Shangzhi lightly placed his hands on the computer.
"Mr. Meng, this is what you told me..." Bai Yunsheng leaned a little closer toward Meng Shangzhi.
Meng Shangzhi's body tensed as he stared at the computer. The dim blue light blurred his vision somewhat, yet he did not dare shift his gaze and could only blink with restraint.
Bai Yunsheng was not as tall as Meng Shangzhi, nor was he as large. The dark navy pajamas looked very loose on him. With that one glance earlier, Meng Shangzhi had caught sight of the snowy whiteness of Bai Yunsheng's chest.
And...
Meng Shangzhi's hand resting on the computer curled.
His scent.
Bai Yunsheng smelled the same as him.
It was the bitter yet fragrant scent of tea.
"Mr. Meng?"
"Mr. Meng?"
Seeing that Meng Shangzhi had not reacted after he finished speaking, Bai Yunsheng moved closer again. Bai Yunsheng had no habit of drying his hair, and the droplets hanging from it fell with his movement, landing right on the back of Meng Shangzhi's hand. It was as though a massive stone had suddenly crashed into a calm lake, stirring towering waves across its surface, ripples surging vast and violent.
Meng Shangzhi abruptly turned his head. Looking at Bai Yunsheng so close at hand, as well as that patch of distracting fair skin, his breathing grew uneven. "What did you say?"
Bai Yunsheng blinked and pointed to the place where he had taken notes. "Why can only this much funding be used here? Didn't you say that perfect success is built on a huge pile of money? But isn't the funding here a little too little?"
Another droplet fell from his hair, this time landing on the notes, one wet patch joining another.
"Mr. Meng."
Several spots on the white paper began to turn translucent.
This distance was not "friendly" to Meng Shangzhi.
The thing in his mind clamored like a nightmare.
Hurry up and touch him.
Hold him tightly in your arms so he can't move.
Make him regret getting so close to you.
Make him regret appearing here.
A faint blood-red tint showed in Meng Shangzhi's eyes.
He was about to suffocate in this spring night.
The notification chime that popped up from the computer exploded beside Meng Shangzhi's ears. The blood-red faded, leaving behind a dark blankness. Meng Shangzhi braced himself against the desk and stood up. "It's already late. Get some rest early." His voice was dry and unnatural.
Bai Yunsheng glanced at his phone. It was only eight o'clock.
"Mr. Meng, are you feeling unwell somewhere? Your complexion doesn't look good."
Meng Shangzhi stared emptily at a single point. "I'm a little tired."
The chair spun once with Meng Shangzhi's turn. Just as he was about to lift his foot again, Bai Yunsheng suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist.
"Mr. Meng, I always feel like calling you that is a little distant. Can I change what I call you? You've helped me so much. I want to be a little closer to you."
Meng Shangzhi wanted to pull back his wrist, yet could not bear to. Bai Yunsheng seemed to have seized his lifeline, the beating pulse connected to his heart. "Anything is fine."
Bai Yunsheng considered it solemnly for a few seconds. "Shangzhi?" After saying it, he shook his head. "No, that's a little disrespectful."
Bai Yunsheng continued speaking to himself. "You're a few years older than me..."
Meng Shangzhi let out a soft sigh and finally looked at Bai Yunsheng.
Bai Yunsheng lowered his head, his black hair concealing a small cowlick.
"How about Brother? Can I call you Brother?"
Those two words, Brother, seemed to hold some kind of magic, lightly scratching at Meng Shangzhi's heart. His already hoarse voice became entirely strange. "Anything is fine. You can call me whatever you want."
Bai Yunsheng noticed Meng Shangzhi's oddity. He let go of his hand, the corners of his lips lifting in genuine happiness. It was clearly an ordinary conversation, yet Bai Yunsheng felt his body warming slightly, even finding himself looking forward to how Meng Shangzhi would respond.
"You can call me Shengsheng," Bai Yunsheng said again. "The Sheng from shengsheng buxi."
Late at night.
Bai Yunsheng's bedroom door slowly opened in the silent night. Standing at the door, Meng Shangzhi looked by moonlight at the dark mound on the bed. After pausing briefly for several seconds, Meng Shangzhi walked inside.
Bai Yunsheng slept soundly, and obediently.
Meng Shangzhi lowered his head and quietly looked at Bai Yunsheng's face, blurred by the darkness.
The restraint and self-control of the day had crumbled in this darkness—or perhaps they had already crumbled in that study.
Meng Shangzhi had used immense willpower to keep himself from doing something irreparable.
He did not want Bai Yunsheng to be afraid.
So he was the only one who could suffer.
But he had ultimately underestimated his own selfish desires.
The person he had liked for so long was sleeping without any guard up. He could not remain unmoved.
The night stretched out his desire, and sticky yearning coiled around him like a snake.
Meng Shangzhi slowly reached out. Perhaps he was too nervous, or perhaps too excited. His fingertips trembled faintly with his emotions, and even the air seemed to thin involuntarily along with them.
His curled fingers landed on Bai Yunsheng's face.
Delicate and smooth.
They brushed over his cheek and came to rest beside Bai Yunsheng's mouth.
Meng Shangzhi could not make out Bai Yunsheng's lip color or the shape of his mouth in the darkness, but at that moment, the image of Bai Yunsheng's lips was imprinted in his mind with unparalleled clarity.
They were as soft as he had imagined.
Meng Shangzhi's breathing grew heavier, his eyes filled with frightening desire and possessiveness.
If he had not been afraid of waking Bai Yunsheng, Meng Shangzhi truly wanted to slip his finger inside and tease Bai Yunsheng's tongue.
Once a terrifying thought touched upon a taboo, it became impossible to stop.
After lingering for several seconds, Meng Shangzhi withdrew his hand. Then he slowly bent down, only to stop abruptly just as he was about to touch him. He stared fixedly at the face inches away, veins seeming to bulge on his forehead. The next second, Meng Shangzhi squeezed his eyes shut, then suddenly straightened up and fled in panic.
The moment the door closed.
Bai Yunsheng slowly opened his eyes.
The next day, Bai Yunsheng got up early. When he took the elevator downstairs, he happened to run into Meng Shangzhi, who had just returned from a morning run outside.
Yet another different Meng Shangzhi.
Even without clothes accentuating him, Meng Shangzhi's shoulders still looked so broad. His exposed arms had muscles Bai Yunsheng did not possess—not too thin, yet not overly bulky either, just perfectly proportioned. Beneath his athletic shorts were long, straight legs, while bluish veins showed through his fair skin.
Bai Yunsheng finished his discreet appraisal. "Good morning, Brother."
Meng Shangzhi lightly grasped the towel hanging around his neck. "Good morning, Bai..." He paused for a few seconds before changing his words. "Good morning, Shengsheng."
Hearing Meng Shangzhi call him that, Bai Yunsheng could not help but smile.
Meng Shangzhi said, "Go have breakfast first. I'll be there shortly."
Bai Yunsheng nodded. As he passed through the corridor, he heard the servants cleaning the glass quietly discussing Meng Shangzhi.
"Chairman Meng seems to be in a very good mood today."
"Yeah. I was cleaning in the lobby this morning, and when he saw me, he actually chatted with me for a few sentences. I've been here for a whole year, and I can count the chances I've had to speak with Chairman Meng on one hand."
"Right? And there's also..." One of them wanted to continue, but the other bumped him. That person gave him a meaningful look, and the speaking servant immediately closed his mouth. Both of them looked toward Bai Yunsheng as he approached and respectfully said, "Good morning, Young Master Bai."
Bai Yunsheng smiled brightly, the sunlight streaming in from outside making his face warm and gentle.
"Good morning."
