Background / History

Meng Tianye was White Jade Capital’s resident singer and one of Lu Chengxuan’s kept substitutes, favored because his voice resembled Lu’s “white moonlight.” After discovering Lu’s involvement with Shen Huaiyu, he went on strike during a performance, unaware that this would anger an important guest and leave him vulnerable to punishment. Cheng Lang took the stage in his place, preventing the immediate crisis from escalating. 2

Soon afterward, Lu slapped Meng during an argument and cruelly reduced their relationship to a transaction, leaving Meng humiliated. Cheng found him afterward, brought him ice for his injury, and treated the incident with practical concern rather than pity. 3
