"Whew, a few more cities and we should reach that damned Royal Capital, right?" Achill lay on his back inside a wooden cabin mounted on a flying beast, one of Edolas's most common means of long-distance transportation. Yawning with boredom, he muttered, "I've had just about enough of this lousy place..."
"It'll probably take another few hours. Don't worry, Achill. If you can't stand it, why not just sleep for a while? I'll wake you when we arrive." Lisanna leaned against the wooden wall on one side of the cabin and made the suggestion to Achill, who lay sprawled in the middle of the floor.
The vehicle they were riding was called a Flying Beast Carriage, a form of transportation that had gradually flourished as Edolas Magic grew scarce. It used one of the world's most common flying beasts as its main source of propulsion. Put simply, all they had to do was secure a wooden cabin onto the back of one of these enormous, docile beasts with their incredible strength and endurance, and they were good to go.
These flying beasts bred quickly and were extremely easy to raise. As magic became increasingly scarce in Edolas and magic-powered trains were phased out, vehicles built around flying beasts became the cheapest and most widespread means of transportation available! Nothing else even came close!
But nothing in the world was truly perfect, and even the seemingly excellent Flying Beast Carriage was no exception. Alongside its advantages—easy breeding, a high carrying capacity, and a docile temperament—it had one equally obvious flaw: it flew far too slowly!
