Background

Early life

Laxus is Makarov's grandson. Makarov remembers him as an obedient child who loved Fairy Tail before he became distant, prideful, and fixated on the guild's public strength. 3 38

Ivan states that Laxus was sickly as a child and received an implanted Dragon Slayer Lacrima, granting him Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic. Ivan later intends to remove and sell the Lacrima, treating his son’s power as a commodity. 45

S-Class examination and rivalry with Ye

Laxus and Ye were selected as Fairy Tail's S-Class examination candidates. Recognizing that Ye's exceptional senses made the exam unfair, Laxus proposed a direct duel to determine who would challenge Gildarts. 6 7

During the fight, Laxus unveiled Lightning Dragon Slayer Mode, but Ye withstood his strongest lightning attacks and defeated him. The loss left Laxus humiliated, though Makarov urged him to use it as motivation to grow. 7 8

During the Harvest Festival, Laxus and the Thunder Legion turned Magnolia into a battlefield. They petrified Fairy Tail's women, imposed combat rules on guild members, and threatened them with Fried's magic. 38 39

Laxus escalated the conflict by activating Thunder Palace, placing 300 lightning crystals over Magnolia and threatening the city if Fairy Tail did not acknowledge him as guild master. 41 42
