Background / History

Kakashi graduated from the Ninja Academy at age six and became a Jōnin at twelve. During the Shinobi World War, he breached Iwagakure's defenses alone and inherited the reputation of his father, Sakumo Hatake. 6

Sakumo's death shaped Kakashi's uncompromising view of strength. Sakumo discovered an enemy trap, ordered his comrades to retreat, completed the mission alone, and later died from his injuries; Kakashi believed that greater strength—his father's, his teammates', or Konoha's—could have prevented the loss. 6

During the Battle of Kannabi Bridge, Kakashi rescued Rin and Obito Uchiha from an Iwagakure encirclement at the cost of one eye. The Uchiha Clan later gave him a Sharingan in gratitude. 6
