Sasuke is proud, competitive, and intensely focused on training. He speaks bluntly, often disguising concern for others with sarcasm or hostility, particularly toward Menma. Despite his harsh manner, he refuses to advance by sacrificing comrades and repeatedly acts to protect his teammates 9 10.

Academy and Team 7 Formation

Sasuke establishes his combat talent by swiftly defeating Shino during Academy sparring, then graduates and joins Team 7 2 5 6. During Kakashi’s entry test, he rejects the demand to sacrifice a teammate and awakens the one-tomoe Sharingan after Menma challenges his resolve 9.

Team 7 ultimately passes because each member volunteers to give up their own place rather than abandon another. Sasuke’s concern for Menma becomes visible when redirected shuriken nearly strike him during the test 10.

Early Genin Missions

On Team 7’s first combat-oriented mission, Sasuke recklessly attacks a gigantic wild boar with shuriken and Great Fireball Technique, nearly being injured before Menma drags him aside 12. Kakashi later reprimands him for disregarding teamwork and charging ahead without a plan 14.

After chakra-nature testing, Sasuke is identified as possessing Fire and Lightning natures. Kakashi begins preparing him for Chidori training 14 15.

Land of Waves Conflict

Sasuke fights alongside Menma against the Demon Brothers, using Substitution Technique and coordinated attacks to help defeat them 19 20.

During the political combat arbitration between Konoha and the Hidden Mist, Sasuke faces Suigetsu Hōzuki. He uses the Sharingan to wound Suigetsu, but loses the match when Suigetsu forces both of them out of bounds and Sasuke lands outside first 26 27.

When Utakata loses control of the Six-Tails, Sasuke supports Menma’s Wind Release assault with Lightning Release, helping force Utakata’s transformation into the fully manifested Saiken 31.
