The following night, Ke Chen drove Elektra home, then prepared to go looking for Kingpin.
Though he possessed many abilities, he had no idea just how strong he really was.
That was also why he had never made a move before.
The system required him to keep a low profile and hide his strength.
In fact, even without the system's demands, Ke Chen had always been someone who enjoyed life.
Fighting and killing completely clashed with his personality.
Modern society was harmonious to begin with, and Ke Chen had never had much use for his abilities.
Using abilities like Heat Vision against petty thugs would be overkill.
Now that he had decided to make a move against Kingpin, Ke Chen was somewhat excited.
No matter what, Kingpin was still a major figure.
Especially in New York, Kingpin was the true underground emperor, controlling the entire city's underworld.
Unfortunately, Lorna saw through his excitement and firmly insisted on coming along.
Thinking that Lorna was powerful and had some combat experience, Ke Chen agreed.
The two drove straight toward downtown.
As for finding Kingpin, that was fairly simple for Ke Chen.
New York by day and New York by night seemed like two different cities.
During the day, New York offered nothing but towering buildings and surging crowds.
But once night fell, one discovered that this place was paradise.
It was a city that never slept. It felt like stepping into a cyberpunk world, with young and beautiful figures everywhere, of every skin color.
In the safe zones, it did not matter how late one stayed out, because patrols were always on watch.
Their main targets were Black people.
There was a reason Black people faced discrimination in the United States.
Detroit had once been a city of automobiles, but after Black people flooded in, white residents left in large numbers. Capital and technology all abandoned Detroit, and it quickly became a city of crime.
Wherever there were more Black people, public security would become chaotic!
Because they were lazy to the extreme, refusing to work and only thinking of extortion and robbery to get by. Their favorite activity might have been "zero-dollar shopping."
And they could not control themselves either, casually impregnating women wherever they went, then immediately abandoning the children after they were born.
The vast majority of Black children had to spend their childhood asking, "Where's Dad?"
Without a doubt, Kingpin was an outright racist.
Black people were not allowed into Kingpin Building, and not one of his subordinates was Black.
Whenever Kingpin saw a Black person on the street, he would even have his men beat them up.
Kingpin stepped out of his sedan, leaned on his cane, and walked coldly toward his building.
He could barely wait any longer.
Kingpin still did not know that Bullseye was dead, and this time, he was dead for good.
Although Bullseye was his subordinate, he often disappeared for a while when carrying out missions, so Kingpin had grown used to it.
He entered the elevator and went straight down to the underground laboratory.
The enormous underground space made the Quantum Collider in the center appear incredibly small.
White sheets covered the surrounding walls, preventing any problems when the passage to the Parallel Worlds was opened.
When Kingpin arrived, dozens of scientists in white coats were already standing ready.
Every machine had been tested countless times to ensure there would be no accidents.
They all knew how cruel Kingpin was.
He was cruel not only to his enemies, but to his own people as well.
Anyone who dared ruin his plans would be torn to pieces.
"Is everything ready?"
The hand Kingpin used to grip his cane trembled slightly.
After his son Richard died, he had been consumed by rage, nearly starting a war throughout the underworld.
And after personally killing his wife Vanessa, Kingpin had been overwhelmed with regret.
The facts proved that he was human too.
As long as someone was human, they had emotions and desires. Even an underground emperor like Kingpin could not sever them.
Kingpin had exhausted every possible method to undo it all. This was the method with the greatest chance of success.
Parallel Worlds!
Parallel Worlds were also known as the Multiverse.
The Multiverse was a theoretical collection of infinitely many or finitely many possible universes, encompassing everything that existed and could exist: all space, time, matter, energy, and the physical laws and constants that described them.
The concept of Parallel Worlds originated from quantum mechanics. As early as the 1950s, physicists had proposed the idea.
By now, many scientists believed in the existence of Parallel Worlds or the Multiverse.
It was simply that humanity's current technology could not open a passage to Parallel Worlds.
That was indeed the case. Later, Marvel only found the key to opening the Multiverse due to a series of circumstances.
And it had relied on magic.
Scarlet Witch's dark magic, Doctor Strange's forbidden magic, and Lady Loki stabbing Kang the Conqueror to death with a single sword strike...
What science could not accomplish, magic could!
But Kingpin knew none of that. He did not believe in magic, only science.
From that perspective, Kingpin was a materialist, as unwavering as Tony Stark.
Thus, Kingpin spent vast sums of money hiring countless physicists and scientists to build the Quantum Collider before him.
It was an enormous power hog, capable of draining all of New York's electricity in an instant. It was terrifying beyond measure.
In truth, Kingpin had to thank Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark, for being able to build this thing.
During World War II, the Marvel universe did not have much advanced technology. The reason so much advanced technology emerged later was because Howard had proposed countless concepts and theories about the future world.
Wakanda had advanced by leaps and bounds because of Howard's ideas, and many others had benefited as well.
In Howard's concept, something like a Quantum Collider needed a reactor to supply its power.
Kingpin naturally did not have such a thing. He was not someone who specialized in technology.
So he could only choose a brute-force approach.
As Kingpin tapped his cane, all the scientists took their seats and prepared to activate the machine that had cost them countless efforts.
"Begin."
Kingpin stared at the red button before him, and his heart suddenly surged with excitement.
As countless switches were activated, the Quantum Collider before them began spinning madly, tugging at the white sheets around it.
"Ten!"
"Nine!"
"..."
"One!"
As the countdown reached one, Kingpin slammed his hand down.
"Boom!"
In that instant, the Quantum Collider collided at extreme speed.
The shockwave from the collider shattered the laboratory glass above in an instant.
The powerful impact sent everyone flying.
No one knew what had happened, because at that moment, the entire world seemed to fall silent.
New York, the city that never slept, was plunged into darkness at that very moment.
Countless people screamed. This had never happened before, and humanity still harbored an indescribable fear of the dark!
