Looking at the ribs again, they were all meaty ribs, with small bones and plenty of meat. The meat looked exceptionally tender, and the fat on top seemed to still be bubbling as a rich aroma rose with the steam.
Lu Ao could not help swallowing. "Smells so good!"
Song Zhou's eyes curved slightly. "I figured you'd like it."
"I love ribs. They look delicious already." Lu Ao sprang to his feet excitedly. "Wait a second, I'll get some bowls and chopsticks."
"Okay."
Lu Ao hurried into the kitchen and brought out sterilized bowls and chopsticks.
"Come on, eat with me."
Song Zhou declined. "You eat. I didn't bring much."
"What kind of host eats alone in front of a guest?" Lu Ao set a bowl and chopsticks before Song Zhou, then unwrapped a rice dumpling for himself. "Hm? Two kinds of filling?"
"Yes. One with fresh pork, and one with egg yolk."
"They smell amazing. Did the chef at your compound make these too?"
"Yes. They only made a small batch for the festival."
The rice dumplings were not large, each about the size of a duck egg.
Lu Ao took a light bite, but it still took up half the dumpling, just enough to bite through half the filling.
The one he was eating had a meat filling, probably made with pork belly, half lean and half fat. The moment he bit down, the fragrance of the glutinous rice and the rich aroma of the meat burst across his mouth, making his mouth water.
Only as he chewed did he realize that the dumpling contained not only meat, but something like pickled mustard greens as well. It crunched pleasantly beneath his teeth, cutting through the richness of the meat perfectly.
This meat rice dumpling was absolutely incredible.
