A young entrepreneur opening a restaurant for the first time.
Although he had not met the man yet, the fact that a boss was willing to investigate the market proved he was serious. Compared to dealing with those sly old foxes, Su Yan found this kind of young boss much more to his liking. Even after living two lives, he still had to guard against being cheated.
Su Yan dialed the number, and Zhang Wei's deep voice came through. "Who is this?" He really was a young man in his twenties. The other end was noisy, as if they were having a drinking contest.
"Hello, Boss Zhang. Looking to buy vegetables?" Su Yan laughed loudly and spoke bluntly. He could imagine the look of stunned confusion on Boss Zhang's face.
Zhang Wei was drinking with someone when he suddenly heard the mention of buying vegetables. He was indeed taken aback, only coming to his senses after a moment.
"Are you Boss Su, the vegetable seller?" Zhang Wei stepped outside the private room to ask. Yesterday, he had learned Su Yan's surname from Aunt Xu.
"Mm, I'm Su Yan. Boss Zhang, you seem busy and you've had quite a bit to drink. Can we talk business now? Otherwise, we can get in touch another time."
"No need. I'm perfectly sober. Forgive me for asking, but where do you get your vegetables? I couldn't find anything of your quality in any of the major produce markets."
"There are places besides markets, such as the countryside. But that's a trade secret, so please allow me to keep it confidential. Since you've done market research, you must have tried my vegetables. You know whether they taste good or not. Good-quality produce paired with excellent chefs means you won't have to worry about losing greedy customers. If you're interested in ordering vegetables and fruit, we can meet another day to discuss the details."
Zhang Wei could not help laughing. "You sound pretty tough. Are you saying you don't care even if you lose me as a customer?"
"You can understand it that way. After all, I have the best products."
"What confidence. Fine, please honor me with a meeting tonight at eight at First-Class Residence."
Su Yan knew it was too difficult to ask for leave now.
It was evening self-study, and the teacher on duty happened to be the good-tempered chemistry teacher.
Su Yan sat through half the class, then suddenly let out a pained groan and collapsed onto his desk, whimpering.
His deskmate, Chen Yan, was the first to notice. She panicked and tugged at Su Yan. "Y-you, what's wrong?"
Su Yan groaned even more dramatically. Liang Kui had been texting someone, but this caught his attention too.
He shot Su Yan an annoyed sideways look. "Oh? Did you get a stomachache from sneaking too many tomatoes? Truly, those who bring disaster upon themselves cannot live."
Su Yan kept crying out in pain, cold sweat even beading on his forehead.
The chemistry teacher hurried over in a panic. "Su Yan, where do you feel unwell?" As she spoke, she quickly touched his forehead. It was icy cold and covered in sweat. It was not a fever, but the situation looked bad.
The chemistry teacher hurriedly said, "Class monitor, come here. Take a few boys and bring Su Yan to the clinic."
The school was a little far from the hospital, but there was a clinic nearby.
The class monitor, Lin Qiang, was a small-built boy. He came over and said awkwardly, "Liang Kui, help carry Su Yan. We'll go together."
"Me? Why me? Isn't it just diarrhea? What's with all the fuss?" Liang Kui rubbed his nose and replied bluntly.
"Liang Kui! Students should be friendly with one another. At a time like this, you're still picking a fight?" the teacher scolded angrily.
Liang Kui was left speechless. Reluctantly, he hauled Su Yan up and sneered, "Big brother will carry you to squat over the toilet. One good shit and I guarantee you won't hurt anymore. You deserve this. You stole too many tomatoes, so even Heaven is punishing you." He hated it. Su Yan ate tomatoes every day—one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and another at night! The bastard only cared about eating them himself and never shared any with anyone else. Every time he watched Su Yan eat with such relish, Liang Kui felt starving. Later, Liang Kui bought tomatoes too, only to find that they were not tasty at all. The tomatoes he bought seemed to taste different from Su Yan's. But he was too embarrassed to ask Su Yan where he got them, so he could only glare helplessly every day.
Liang Kui carried Su Yan out of the classroom with ease, while class monitor Lin Qiang hurried after them. Quite a few girls in the class worried for Su Yan, and those who secretly liked him were even more anxious. Wan Fang's feelings for Su Yan were out in the open; she did not hide them at all. She stood up and said directly to the teacher, "Teacher, boys are all careless. How about I go along and look after him? Besides, we don't know whether they brought any money."
The teacher thought that made sense and was about to agree when Chen Wanwan stood up. "I can go. I'm the vice class monitor."
"Mm. Chen Wanwan, you go. Wan Fang, you should stay."
Chen Wanwan picked up her wallet and calmly walked out of the classroom. Wan Fang was terribly depressed. It had been such a good chance to show concern for Su Yan, and she had missed it just like that.
Chen Wanwan jogged after the three of them. Liang Kui asked in surprise and delight, "Why did you come along?"
Chen Wanwan said seriously, "I'm the vice class monitor. It's my responsibility to care about fellow student Su Yan."
"Come on, hurry up. Su Yan looks like he's in a lot of pain," Lin Qiang urged Liang Kui.
The four of them left the school together and headed straight for the clinic.
Su Yan, who was pretending to be sick, was deeply annoyed. He had not expected so many people to come along. Liang Kui, who never got along with him, was one thing—he had a way to get rid of him. He could even bribe Lin Qiang. But Chen Wanwan was another matter entirely.
Just as the clinic was about to come into view and Su Yan was growing anxious, his phone suddenly rang.
Su Yan hurriedly answered. Boss Zhang said from the other end, "Mr. Su, do you remember our dinner appointment at eight? I've already reserved a private room."
"Dad, I'm not feeling well... My stomach hurts. It's probably enteritis again. Ah, you're coming to school to pick me up and take me to the hospital? Okay, I'll wait for you at the entrance..."
