Su Yan leisurely worked through chemistry problems. Hearing this, he neither interrupted nor replied.

Liang Kui spat as he ranted without letting up. "Huang Biao is the one who most deserves a beating! Damn it, at night he gets lazy and doesn't go to the bathroom to piss—he pisses in the hallway! The moment he opens the door, there's a wave of piss stench; when he closes it, there's another wave! My bed is right by the door, do you know how miserable that is? You need to discipline him and teach him to use the bathroom. Just how low can a person's standards be? Next thing you know, he'll be shitting in the hallway."

"And Fu Chao! If he has rhinitis, he should get it treated. What good is blowing his nose twenty hours a day? Damn it, he just keeps blowing and blowing and blowing his nose. When I close my eyes, I hear him blowing his nose. When I open them, he's still blowing his nose. I've even skipped breakfast because of it."

"Class monitor, you can't ignore my demands. Every problem I brought up is a major problem. The flu is spreading so badly right now—filth is the root of all evil."

"Class monitor, are you listening?" Liang Kui tilted his head and stared at Su Yan expectantly.

Su Yan finally looked up at him. He rubbed his nose and drawled, "Easy. I'll settle it for you in no time."

"Really? You truly are worthy of being class monitor!" Liang Kui's eyes filled with excited tears. He might have seemed careless and boorish, but he was very particular about personal hygiene. The dormitory's filth and mess were simply intolerable. Twelve grown boys crammed together—being clean by himself was useless. He couldn't exactly wash Wang Fugui's smelly socks for him, much less watch Huang Biao all night to make sure he went to the bathroom to piss.

Su Yan nodded and generously patted Liang Kui on the shoulder. "After class, I'll go see the homeroom teacher and have him appoint you dorm leader of 303 Dormitory. Dorm hygiene and dorm discipline will be in your hands from now on. Liang Kui, I have faith in you."

"..."

During evening self-study, the chemistry teacher was in class, but discipline was lax. The teacher prepared lessons at the podium while the students below secretly slacked off.

Faced with a chemistry worksheet that did not need to be handed in, Chen Wanwan was absentminded. She did one problem, rested for a while, checked the time now and then, and turned to look at Liang Kui, who was sitting far away from her.

She had turned around to look at Liang Kui more than ten times, yet he had not looked at her even once. With his head tilted, Liang Kui was chattering away to Su Yan about who knew what. What could they possibly have to talk about for so long without stopping? She had even secretly texted him, and he had not replied. Chen Wanwan's anger flared.

"A class monitor chatting with his deskmate during class—what kind of example is that?" Chen Wanwan muttered softly.

Her deskmate was Yu Cong, her childhood friend. Hearing that, Yu Cong leaned closer and whispered, "I think Su Yan is great. Everything about him is great, but most importantly, he's handsome. His nose, eyes, mouth—everything looks good! And up close, his skin is really nice. Unlike other boys, whose faces look like the surface of the moon, with pores as big as sesame seeds. It's kind of disgusting."

Chen Wanwan snorted. "You just think he's handsome, so you take his side in everything. Lovesick fool."

Yu Cong curled her lips. "So what if I am? Wanwan, you're weird too. Su Yan is a handsome guy and he hasn't done anything to you, so why do you dislike him so much? Someone who didn't know better might think you were jealous of his good grades." Yu Cong forced herself to say it, though deep down she felt that was the truth. Chen Wanwan had been class monitor since the first grade of elementary school, and the position had continued to be hers through high school. Having it suddenly taken away was no small blow for someone as competitive as Chen Wanwan.

But Yu Cong also found it strange. Last semester, the class monitor had been Lin Qiang. Though Chen Wanwan occasionally targeted him, it had not felt the same as the way she treated Su Yan.

Yu Cong could not help looking toward Su Yan. Liang Kui really was talking to him, while Su Yan did not say a word. He simply kept doing his homework, completely ignoring Liang Kui's endless babbling.

Yu Cong could not help laughing. "Liang Kui seems pretty close with Su Yan."

Chen Wanwan was silent for a long while before suddenly saying, "There's no reason to hate someone."

"Haha, what kind of thing is that to say?" Yu Cong laughed.

Chen Wanwan frowned, her thoughts drifting far away. Slowly, she said, "No reason means no reason. If I have to explain it, I felt uncomfortable the first time I saw him... I think he's the one who hates me."

"Huh?"

Chen Wanwan rubbed her brow and shot Yu Cong an irritated glare. "Why are you asking so many questions? Did you have a reason for hating Chen Yan before?"

Yu Cong was left speechless. That was true. Back then, many people had disliked Chen Yan for no reason. Even if they had never exchanged a single word with Chen Yan, they disliked, despised, and rejected her on sight. They felt that someone like Chen Yan was disgusting, gloomy, and bleak—the very embodiment of inferiority and shame. But in reality, Chen Yan had done nothing at all.

"How can Chen Yan be compared to Su Yan?" Yu Cong argued unhappily. Su Yan was tall, handsome, and good at school—he was good at everything, in short.

Chen Wanwan said disdainfully, "I think he's very much like Chen Yan. Same kind of person—gloomy and cunning. A dog that bites doesn't bark. That's exactly the kind of person he is."

Yu Cong ground her teeth in anger. Chen Wanwan had actually compared Su Yan to a dog. But she only dared to sulk in silence, lacking the courage to argue with Chen Wanwan. This friend she had grown up with made her afraid; no matter what she did, she always unconsciously felt inferior to her.

Neither of them spoke again. Chen Wanwan felt rather annoyed with herself. She had never planned to say such things aloud; it had merely been a feeling hidden in her heart. She and Su Yan barely interacted anyway, so whether she disliked or liked him did not matter. But today, she seemed to have acted on impulse and blurted out her prejudice against Su Yan.
