"Is that all?"
Wilton gazed deeply at the old woman before him.
A long life of peace and comfort had indeed made him somewhat sluggish, but that did not mean he had lost his wisdom.
"Before that, I hope you can wear the Magic Net Ring and make a trip to the kingdom's border."
"You want me to help you test whether the Magic Internet can transmit messages that far?" Wilton instantly understood what she meant.
As the fastest mage in the kingdom, if he went all out, he could travel several times faster than a Griffin messenger.
He simply did not understand why she was in such a hurry.
The communication runes did not seem to be lacking these two days!
"Yes. If possible, I hope you can give the Magic Net Rings to more border guards, especially the northern garrison."
At the mention of the northern garrison, Wilton's breathing caught. "Watcher's Wall?"
"Some scholars from our association disappeared near there." The old woman took a deep breath. "We still do not know whether it was White Walkers or cultists... People on the Magic Web have been discussing how the White Walkers' movements in the north seem rather strange. I also want you to confirm it."
After a brief silence, Wilton finally spoke. "How many Magic Net Rings are there now?"
"None." The old woman shook her head. "Once a Magic Net Ring is used, it becomes soul-bound. We can only hope Hedy the Coffin Bearer returns soon."
"Or that we successfully replicate them."
"Are you certain this Magic Net Ring isn't divine magic?" Wilton seemed to have finally realized something.
Divine magic and magic were two completely separate, incompatible systems.
Once, a high-order bishop from the Church of Light tried to use magic to power divine magic. In the end, the bishop died. His skull was empty, and his brain had been burned to ash.
Something bestowed by a god, with such miraculous effects—was it truly not divine magic?
He did not dare research divine magic runes.
Though he looked old as a Legendary Mage, he was actually still in his prime.
"No, these are pure Magic Runes. I can guarantee it, and I will personally handle the final engraving." After a slight pause, the old woman added, "Do not forget, this is a 'gift from the gods' bestowed by the Magic Goddess."
The Magic Goddess had no church and no system of faith, so naturally, she had neither priests nor divine magic.
Rumor had it that she was the only extraordinary figure in the world who had seen through the essence of divine magic and used magic power to develop the profession of mages.
Would such an existence possess divine magic?
No caster had ever considered that question.
But every caster would instantly give the same answer.
No!
How could Lady of Mysteries possibly set her sights on divine magic?
"Wait! My god, I never expected you to become this scheming! You are no longer that little girl from two hundred years ago who clung to me and called me 'Uncle Wilton'!"
Just as Wilton was about to agree, he suddenly remembered something. After a startled cry, he said, "Hedy the Coffin Bearer's coffin belongs to that old fellow. Why not just go directly to him? He cannot possibly leave that Magic Anomaly Zone, can he?"
"You will never make me research divine magic!"
The moment his cry faded, he vanished from his residence.
When he appeared again, he was already in the Black Forest within the eastern mountains of the royal capital.
"It really is gloomy~ If I were him, I would rather have gone to sleep a hundred years ago... Though that would not have made much difference. Damn it!"
Wilton grumbled nonstop, but he still quickly ventured deeper and knocked on the enormous tombstone.
Before long, he successfully entered the underground reception room.
"Wilton, the president of the Royal Mage Association actually has the leisure to visit this godforsaken, abandoned place of mine. How surprising!"
The old mage had not even prepared a cup of weak tea, and he did not seem to intend to.
"Senior Brother, you make it sound as though I never visit you." Wilton wore an extravagantly heartbroken expression.
In contrast, Hedy looked utterly stunned.
The president of the Royal Mage Association, such an important figure, a Legendary Mage, was actually her old man's junior brother?!
Just how many years had this old fellow lived?
Did High-Order Mages not only live for three hundred years?
Sure enough, even if I died, he still would not!
"Then let me ask you: do you remember this child? She became my Apprentice twelve years ago." The old mage snorted disdainfully. "Tell me, what do you want from me? If you are still after that potion, sorry, I do not have any."
"No, I have already given up!"
Seemingly afraid that the old mage would expose a secret he had buried for years, Wilton hurriedly changed the subject. "Child, you are the one distributing Magic Net Rings in the city, right?"
"Y-Yes!"
Hedy was somewhat at a loss.
No one could remain calm before a Legendary Mage.
Of course, the old mage was an exception.
"The Magic Net Rings are gifts from the gods bestowed by the Magic Goddess. The rules for distributing them were set by the gods."
The old mage put on a smug expression. "Wilton, if you want such rings, obediently wait in the city."
"You still have some?! That is wonderful!"
Wilton's ears seemed to have a filter that automatically blocked out unpleasant words from the outside world. He immediately said, "I need one thousand! If not one thousand, eight hundred will do."
Hedy's eyes darted around.
He needed that many?
Would that mean I would not need to distribute them anymore?
No! I should not use up the free slots. I should sell them to this fellow.
The Royal Mage Association was backed by the royal family.
The richest casters in the kingdom!
Hedy was clearly still too inexperienced. The old mage reacted much faster. "Heavens! You need so many? Do you intend to distribute them directly to everyone in the Royal Mage Association?!"
Before Wilton could speak, the old mage continued, "Most of our Magic Net Rings have already been distributed. However, I, a believer of the Magic Goddess and a living saint of the magical field, am willing to pray for you once and ask the goddess to bestow more gifts from the gods!"
"Go back now. I need to start preparing. Remember to bring more Gold Shields—at least ten thousand! Otherwise, you will never receive that many Magic Net Rings."
Without giving the Legendary Mage any chance to react, the old mage sent him away, leaving only a dumbfounded Hedy behind.
"Teacher, did the god not say we should sell them for one Gold Shield each?"
"Did the god not tell us to collect Gold Shields so they would understand that the Magic Web did not come easily? Do you think a price of one Gold Shield each would make that fellow hurt? Would it make the king behind him hurt?"
The old mage gave Hedy a strange look. "Child, you still have much to learn..."
Goddess of Magic's Divine Realm.
The puppet Betty watched the scene with a face full of astonishment. "Lord Roger, did you know from the beginning that this old man was so shameless, which was why you chose him?"
